March is Reading Month General Information
Silver Springs is excited to dive into March is Reading Month! We've planned some fun activities for this month long celebration of reading!
- Our annual March Reading Challenge begins on Friday, March 1st and ends on Tuesday, March 29th.
- WE ARE AIMING FOR 100% PARTICIPATION! We need to synergize in order to meet our school wide goal of 250,000 total minutes!
- The classroom in each grade level with the most total minutes read at the end of the month will win a $20 gift certificate to purchase books for their classroom at Spring Book Fair!!
- Each classroom will have weekly drawings for $5 coupons for the Spring Book Fair. To be eligible for the drawing, students must turn in their reading log for that week. *Each student can only win once during the month.
- All students who contribute towards our school wide reading goal will receive a coupon for a free pizza from Pizza Cutter! Please see this thank you letter from Pizza Cutter for the support that Northville families have provided over the years.
Weekly Reading Logs
Students will complete and turn in weekly reading logs for the month of March. Weekly logs are due Tuesday mornings. Your child will bring home a reading log in their Monday envelope on Monday, Feb. 25th. If you need another copy, please click on your child's grade level below to access and print the reading log.

Kindergarten~ 10 minutes/day
1st Grade~ 15 minutes/day
2nd Grade~ 20 minutes/day
3rd Grade~ 20 minutes/day
4th Grade~ 25 minutes/day
5th Grade~ 30 minutes/day

Each Friday in March is a Celebrate Reading Day! The schedule for these special days is on the calendar. Please see the info below for more information about our Celebrate Reading Days.
Stuffed Animal Day (March 1st)~ Students may bring a stuffed animal to school to read with during their class reading time.
Switch-A-Room & Read Day (March 8th)~ During reading time today, classes will "Switch-a-Room" and spend time reading in another classroom in the building.
Read in the Dark Day (March 15th)~ During classroom reading time, students will read in the dark. Students may bring in a flashlight to read with today.
Read at the Beach Day (March 22nd)~ Reading time today will be spent at the beach! Students may bring in beach towels and sunglasses to use during reading time today.
Book Exchange
Silver Springs will be hosting a book exchange the week of March 4th through 8th. All students who wish to participate may bring in gently used books that they have enjoyed, to exchange with other students. Monday through Friday during this week, students may drop off their books and take home up to two books each day. Tables will be set up in the lobby from 8:30-8:45am.

Milk and Cookies
All students are invited to hear a few of our Silver Springs staff read their favorite books and enjoy some Milk and Cookies on Wednesday, March 13th from 6:00-7:00pm. Please click the blue button below to access the Milk and Cookies Google Form to RSVP for this fun event!

Author Visit~ Peter Raymundo
We are excited to bring in this year’s March Is Reading Month author, Peter Raymundo. He is visiting us from Florida where he formerly worked for Disney in Character Animation on films such as Mulan, Tarzan, Lilo & Stitch, and The Princess and the Frog. He is now a writer and illustrator of children’s books such as The Monkey Goes Bananas and The Lazy Hippo, and a chapter book series, The Third Grade Mermaid. He will be discussing story structure, drawing, creativity, and story basics along with drawing demonstrations for each grade level during school on March 25th.
