Tests You Might Take In High School
There are a variety of tests that high school students take. In addition to tests in your classroom you may also take one of these:
- End of Course Exams: All students take an EOC in Algebra 1, English 10, Government, and Biology. You might also take an exam at the end of some Career Center classes.
- College Admissions Tests: Students start taking these tests in the spring of their Junior Year. Scores on these tests are most often used in college admissions and scholarship competitions.
- ACT -- www.act.org
- SAT -- www.sat.org
- Advanced Placement Tests: Students are able to take classes in high school that are college-level courses. Some colleges award credit based on the scores that students achieve on the AP Exams that happen in May. For more information: www.ap.collegeboard.org
- PSAT: This test is the main way Junior students are able to enter the National Merit Scholarship Competition. It is offered in October. Make sure you listen to announcements for sign-ups. For more information: www.nationalmerit.org
- Pre-ACT: A practice opportunity for sophomores in the fall, this test mimics the format of the ACT College Admission test.
