Chancellor News and Notes
September 10-14, 2018
It's going to be a wet week!
Rain, rain, go away!
It looks like it's going to be rain, rain, rain for a while. All this week it looks like rain, including today. Another tropical depression is moving into the area later this week, and Florence is coming in on the east coast, so be prepared at school and at home for lots of rain. Plan indoor recess activities that incorporate movement, as we will have lots of squirrely students after days of no running outside! Increase your brain breaks, use Go Noodle, and have a little more patience as needed.
To take care of yourself: make sure you are keeping updated on the weather each day, and prepare your home if we reach the point where flooding could be an issue. The ground is saturated and we do not know how much rain we will be getting over the next couple of weeks, so better to be prepared. An unlike me yesterday (getting soaked trying to buy groceries!), make sure you keep your umbrella in the car and take it in with you wherever you go. A link to KHOU weather is below for you to check out (good blog there too on why we are just now getting into hurricane weather in September).
On a more positive note, here's Kid President: share with your students!
Why is positive thinking important? (share this video with your students!)
Speaking of positive, here is the next Chancellor Comet of the Week!
Last week's Comet of the Week, Mrs. Van Nguyen-Anderson, has nominated this week's Comet of the Week. This week's COW is Candase Carr! Congratulations!
Mrs. Anderson wrote the following about Ms. Carr: "She is always helpful and funny, and encourages people to be positive. She is always optimistic! She has a beautiful soul, and is confident, passionate, and kind." Thank you Ms. Carr, as that truly represents Chancellor Elementary in being a SHINE'ing example of a great staff member!
Ms. Carr will earn a snack shack coupon, jeans pass, and the opportunity to nominate the next Comet of the Week. Her name will be on the Comet of the Week board all this week, so stop by and write a note to her!
A great educator blog to follow and songs to use in your class!
Todd Nesloney is one of my favorite educator-presenters right now. He is positive, motivated, and eager to help students learn in whatever way they can. He's actually right down the road in Navasota, Texas! He has a fantastic blog and is active on social media, and is a great one to follow for new ideas or when you just need that little bit of inspiration. Below is a great blog article he posted, with a bunch of motivational songs to help you and your students feel empowered in the classroom. Feel free to use!

Another great educator blog!
Travis Crowder is another fantastic ELA educator to follow on social media and his blog. I saw him present this summer, and the crowd was just crying all over the place from his story. Check it out below, and get some great ideas and inspiration, especially for encouraging writing with your students. Travis and Todd together have written a book I am just starting to read, called Sparks in the Dark, and are prolific sharers through social media, looking to spread their message of sharing your story with students to help them find the voice to share their own. Great stuff! I have linked Crowder's blog below for you to check out!
