New Works of Art in Library Hallway
The hallway outside of the Chesterfield Elementary Library got a new look over the summer. Inspired by pictures he saw on social media, librarian Steve Brim decided to paint pictures of book spines on the walls. He contacted LHS art teacher Lauren Sakowski and Fine Arts Coordinator Megan Meier, who recommended talented students who might be willing to help with the project. Those students, along with Westridge librarian Anne Reed (a talented artist), worked with Brim to transform the space. Their artwork looks fantastic!

A Lesson About Kindness at Blevins
During Kindness Week at Blevins Elementary School, librarian Trish Lueken read the book One by Kathryn Otoshito fourth grade students. One is a story about friendship and having the courage to stand up for others. Throughout the story, the colors were given personality traits such as quiet, sunny, bright, regal, outgoing, and hothead. The next week, the students made a collage using the colors that resonated with them.
According to Lueken, the theme "Kindness to..... all" is proudly displayed on all staff and student spirit shirts this school year, so "One by Katheryn Otoshi, was the perfect segue to begin the discussion that 'kindness starts with me.'"
