SLRI UPDATE

Winter 2020

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello everyone!

A lot is happening with SLRI these days and it's very exciting! SLRI has been working with RIDE to have it adopt AASL's national standards, we are developing tangible state standards for library curriculum, and we are meeting with state leaders for AASL regarding a school administrator collaborative initiative that could go far in securing librarian jobs in the future. May 29th, the second day of the RILA conference, will be dedicated to school librarians. Workshop sessions geared specifically to school librarians will be offered, followed by an awards party celebrating our accomplishments and our unity. Please plan on attending and learn something new while fulfilling some of your PLUs at the same time! The time is now to get involved and play an active part in our shared vision for our future! Email me at slri.prez@gmail.com if you are interested in learning how to become more involved, even if just for a small amount of time.

VOLUNTEER FOR NATIONAL READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY 2020!

Help us celebrate NEA's Read Across America on February 29th at the Warwick Mall. SLRI will have a table at this event from 10am to 4pm and we need volunteers to help make bookmarks with children. Please email Deanna Brooks if you can cover an hour or two.

LIBRARY CURRICULUM COMMITTEE UPDATE

SLRI is working with RIDE on a plan to get the AASL National School Library Standards Framework for Learners endorsed by the Council for Elementary and Secondary Education. Stay tuned for a survey that will ask you if you support the state’s endorsement of the AASL National School Library Standards Framework for Learners and information about PD sessions to help you get more familiar with them. The goal is to have them endorsed and up on the RIDE website for next school year.
