SPOTLIGHT SESSION
Texas and the Civil War
Presented by Bullock Texas State History Museum

Why did the United States divide and go to war against itself? How did this affect families, the economy, and enslaved people? What battles were fought within Texas' borders and what toll did these battles take on the soldiers? A Museum educator will lead students as they search for evidence from artifacts and paintings. A special guest from the past, Major General Granger, will tell his story about how his reading of the Emancipation Proclamation brought about the end of slavery in Texas.

and observe our star - the sun - LIVE this school year!
Celebrate National Astronomy Day with UT McDonald Observatory during this special interactive videoconference! Marc Wetzel and your students will take a brief helicopter tour of the UT McDonald Observatory, visit huge research telescopes, make live telescope observations of our star (the Sun) with telescopes equipped with special video cameras and solar filters, complete a Student Sun Drawing Sheet, and learn about the solar features they observe on the sun by watching unique science demonstrations. Telescope views will be real-time; in case of inclement weather or equipment problems, recorded views will be provided.

Hank the Cowdog's Ranch Wildlife

Join us as Hank the Cowdog, the Head of Ranch Security, teaches in a fun way about cowboys and horses in a new ranch life book. Saddle up for some fun as everyone's favorite head of Ranch Security gives readers a glimpse into the world of horses, ranch wildlife, and the life of a working cowboy. Hank’s vibrant author, John Erickson, will sing songs (accompanying himself on the banjo) and read from various books using the voices of the characters. Reading is exciting with Hank the Cowdog stories! Join us on this ranching life adventure!

This interactive presentation provides students the opportunity to investigate the relationship between the anatomy and the ecology, including the dietary habits of different species of bats. This is an experience you will not want to miss. LIVE bats take part in the program! We will look at their unique body structures and their functions that allow bats to fly and identify other special adaptations. We will also discuss their basic needs and diverse habitats. In addition, we will explore ways you can help these beneficial creatures and conserve their habitats.
