Is Your Child Ready for Deodorant?
There's really no specific age when kids should start to use deodorant, but if you start to notice that they have body odor... it's probably time!
๐ธKids should start with a stick or gel form instead of a spray that could potentially be sprayed into their eyes.
๐ธEarly on, kids will benefit from just a deodorant but later in puberty as sweating increases, they may need to switch to a combination product that contains both a deodorant and anti-perspirant.
๐ธIt's always a good idea for kids keep an extra deodorant in their backpack or gym locker so that they can re-apply during the school day if needed!
๐ธMake sure kids are bathing on a regular basis as clean skin helps decrease body odor too!
Annual School Vision Screenings
The Lions Club will again be assisting the MPSD Nurse Team with the annual vision screenings in our schools over the next two months. In the elementary schools, we will be screening those children in grades EC/4K, Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th. Please check your child's school calendar for the dates they are scheduled. If your child does not pass the screening, you will receive a referral letter in the mail from their school nurse.
Frequent Headaches?
Does your child experience frequent headaches? Did you know there is a such thing as rebound headaches? This type of headache can occur when over-the-counter pain relievers are used too often (more than 2x/week) and actually cause the headaches to become more severe and occur more often. If your child experiences headaches more than 2x/week, we encourage you to discuss with their medical provider.
Here's a few things to try to help prevent headaches from occurring:
๐นMake sure your child gets enough sleep and follows a bedtime routine every day.
๐นMake sure they eat regular meals, do not allow them to skip a meal.
๐นEnsure that they are drinking plenty of fluids throughout the day.
๐นMake sure your child gets regular exercise or active play time.
๐นLimit screen time use, especially before going to bed.
Reminder Regarding Student Medications
Daily (morning) medications are always best taken at home before arriving for the school day. However, we understand that there are situations that make this difficult or that some children need to take a medication later in the school day.
๐นPrescription medications must have an MPSD Medication Consent form on file that is signed by both parent and prescribing provider. This must be on file before the medication can be administered.
๐นOver the counter medications must have an MPSD Medication Consent form on file that is signed by just a parent. Again, this must be on file before the medication can be administered.
๐นAll medications must be transported to and from school by an adult.
Immunizations
The State of Wisconsin requires certain vaccines for school-aged children. If your child is not up to date on the required vaccines, you have likely already received a call from their school nurse with a reminder. It is very helpful if the vaccines are updated by the end of October. Please note- if you are opting for your child to not receive the required vaccines, there is a waiver that you can sign. The waiver is linked below or you may pick it up from the school office.
