#PSTPLN Challenge

Build your PLN with these 5 challenges September 7-11

#PSTPLN Challenge

Welcome! This PLN Challenge is an extension of the work of @SFecich and @conniehamilton to help show my students, preservice teachers (PST), the power of a PLN. We have participated in this for several semesters now and the collaboration and communication of this activity has changed both attitudes and skills of these future teachers by connecting them with educators on a professional level. Please spread the word and thank you for joining us!

Prior to the challenge

Create a professional Twitter and/or Instagram account. Think professionally about the name you will use for this account and make it relevant. The purpose of this challenge is to see how powerful Twitter and Instagram can be for learning and developing a positive, professional digital presence. Listen to this short podcast to give you a glimpse of what's to come! Check out these Twitter Tips from Dr. Sam Fecich.

Put a face to your name!

Add your picture to your profile. Make it something that represents you. Then add a description that lets us all know who you are, what you do, and what your educational interests are. Think about how you can build your Personal Learning Network (PLN) with Twitter or Instagram. How will you use it professionally?

Challenge 1: MONDAY 9/7

  1. Introduce yourself to the #pstpln community in either Twitter or Instagram. Create a post describing who you are and what you want to gain from this challenge.
  2. Send out a post that celebrates something about teaching that you learned or observed today. Add the tags: #celebratemonday and #pstpln
  3. Reply to 1 other person posting using #pstpln

Challenge 2: TUESDAY 9/8 #pstpln community Q & A

Reasons Why...

Look for professionals to follow and tag them using their Twitter handle (i.e., @spoyo)

Challenge 3: WEDNESDAY 9/9 Find a Twitter Chat to join in on

Twitter chats are conversations that are labeled with a hashtag. They usually have a different theme or topic of discussion. We encourage you to participate in Twitter chats that are of interest to you and your area of licensure. These chats occur at all times of the day and every day of the week so browse through the list included below in the Google Sites Education Chats calendar and select a chat that works with your schedule.

Challenge 4: THURSDAY 9/10 Post something of interest

  1. Find an interesting article/tool/website/resource online.
  2. Copy the URL address and post it for your followers.
  3. Using relative hashtags and of course #pstpln
  4. Respond to 2 peers' posts.
  5. Finding a PLN

Challenge 5: 9/11 Follow Friday

Identify at least 5 people that you would recommend to others to follow. This can be new people from this challenge or individuals from your own PLN. Don't forget to label your post with #pstpln and #FF (for follow Friday). Check out what others are posting and add to your PLN.

LinkedIn, anyone?! Twitter Chat with the ISTE Teacher Education Network every 3rd Monday, 7pm EST (Sept. 21) We need to hear YOUR voice! Please join.

Continue the Conversation and Collaborate!!

Please post your AWESOME finds on this Padlet and book mark it for continued collaboration. You can add hashtags, chats, resources or whatever you have come across that other preservice teachers may find helpful.
