Please fan out so that you can keep a watchful eye on your surroundings. As we discussed last week, when you are visible in the hallways and outside, students will not typically engage in inappropriate behavior. With careful scanning and watching of body language, we can prevent most of these events from happening.
ACTION REQUIRED
During the time that students are transitioning between classes, no students will be unsupervised. Teachers will be in the corridor from the first bell to the second bell.
As we have observed the 300 wing teachers on numerous occasions, their method of providing appropriate supervision works. Discuss with the teacher whose room is adjacent to yours, who will monitor students entering/staying in both classrooms and who will monitor students passing in the hall. In other words, one teacher is constantly watching the activity in the two classrooms and one teacher is constantly watching the activity in the hallway.
Physical education teachers are to be present in the locker rooms whenever students are there.
Attendance Update
You can see the number of students absent can be no more than 18 in order for a grade level to make 95%, which is our goal. Let's work together to get our kids in school every day. Please give your contact logs to Sandra Smithwick.
Teacher Attire
As educators, we should always present our best self to our students and parents. Projecting a professional appearance is part of that. Please keep this in mind.
Thank you.
Teacher Conference Times
Texas Education (§21.404) specifies that teachers are to use their planning time for instructional preparation, including parent-teacher conferences, evaluating students' work, and planning. Certainly we know there are instances where emergencies arise that requires teachers to leave campus for a few minutes, and we will work with you in those situations, but please seek permission to leave before doing so. We are accountable for each staff member, just as we are for each student.
Thank you
Staff Development Day - April 25th
Keep Students in Class
We are now beginning the last six weeks of the academic year. Students still need to be in class 95% of the time. In looking at this by class period, (math teachers, please check me on this), students need to be in their class for just a bit over 42 minutes for regular classes and 85 and a half minutes for block classes.
Let's not give up on the wonderful learning that can still take place this last six weeks. Students need this time as much as the rest of the year because we know they fall behind in the summer. Let's continue to make learning fun for the students as we have done all year.
