Pokemon Cards
Pokemon cards are enjoying a resurgence in popularity, but unfortunately, they are sometimes problematic when brought to school. Recently, the Rainbow staff and I have addressed many issues with missing cards, disagreements about trades, and damaged cards. Sadly, the issues have been upsetting to children and their families, and they have taken up time that is dedicated to instruction.
To alleviate these issues, we are requesting that Pokemon cards remain at home. I know that some children greatly enjoy playing with them, but the issues associated with playing with them at school have been significant. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to create the best learning environment for our students.
Fall and Winter Garden Club
The Garden Club is a free after-school club for students from kindergarten through 5th grade. We meet once a month to complete garden and recycling activities. This year we will meet from 4:15-5:15 PM. Your parents are responsible for transportation home from school promptly at 5:15 PM on the nights that we meet.
We are also looking for parent volunteers. Volunteers must have all their clearances on file in the office.
If you have any questions about Garden Club or are able to volunteer, contact Dr. Chrisman chrismanj@casdschools.org
We are using sign-up genius for Garden Club. There will be one sign up for the Fall/Winter Garden Club. The meetings will be on the following dates:
· September 27
· October 25
· November 22
· December 6
We are limiting garden club to 20 students. Students will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. Once all SignUpGenius slots are full, the Garden Club will be closed. Don’t worry. We are breaking the club into 2 sessions Fall/Winter and Winter/Spring! If you don’t get in to Garden Club in the fall. You can try again in the spring.
Please sign up with your child’s name and grade level, parent email and parent emergency phone number. Make sure you sign up each child in your family with a separate slot!

Message from the School Nurse
When might the school nurse call you?
When the school nurse calls you about your child, do not panic. It is not always an emergency. The school nurse at Rainbow will typically call you about head injuries, urgent medical issues, allergic reactions, sickness that requires the student to be picked up, or reoccurring nonemergent concerns, like stomachaches and headaches. Sometimes, the nurse may call for deep cuts that require medical attention. If there is an injury that can be fixed with a bandage or a student just needs a break, the school nurse mostly likely will not call.
If you are a parent who wants to know every time your child visits the nurse, please let Mrs. Buhl know.
When to keep your child home from school
As we head into cooler months, we are starting to see more sickness -flu, colds, sore throats, and coughs. Sometimes it’s difficult to decide whether to keep your child at home. Here are some general guidelines to follow to help keep our staff and students healthy!
Per the school policy, please keep your child at home if they exhibit any of the following symptoms:
- fever (temperature 99.8 or higher), chills
- persistent cough
- unusual skin rash
- abdominal pain
- vomiting
- diarrhea
- sore throat
- congestion/ runny nose (not associated with seasonal allergies)
- pink, crusty eyes
Children should remain at home at least 24 hours without fever or vomiting/diarrhea following an illness.

Important Reminders
- School times are 9:15 am -3:45pm. During the first week of school, we expect the traffic to take longer and appreciate your patience to drive slowly and carefully in the school zone. Please remember to remain in your vehicle when dropping students off and picking students up from school.
- Main Office Hours: The main office hours are 8:00 am -4:30 pm.
- Early Dismissal: A note/email should be sent in the morning to RBattendance@casdschools.org The note for early dismissals should contain:
Student Name/Teacher/Date and Time of Dismissal/Reason/Name of Adult picking up and relationship/Parent Signature and parent daytime phone#
All early dismissals should be completed at the main office by 3:00. Students must be signed out. Dismissals after 3:15 will be in the parent pickup line.
The adult picking up must bring a government issued Photo ID (preferably a driver’s license).
Refillable water bottles:Rainbow has transitioned to bottle filling stations. Water fountains have been turned off. Students should bring a refillable water bottle to school..
Transportation: A nationwide bus driver shortage is impacting many districts, including Coatesville, and may lead to increased delays. Buses normally run late the first two weeks of school as students and drivers become accustomed to their routes. We appreciate your patience. If your student is riding the bus, please have them at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the arrival of the bus.
Parent-Pick-Up Notes: Thank you for having patience with us as we work to make our afternoon dismissal more efficient. Please help up with this by sending a parent pick up note into school with your student. You may send in a handwritten note or download and print the form below.

Teachers take great pride in making your child feel special on their birthday. If you do feel the need to send something for your child to enjoy with her or his classmates, please follow the birthday guidelines below.
Treats must be peanut free and store bought. Please do not send sheet cakes for your child’s birthday treat. Individually wrapped Items such as pencils, stickers, etc. are acceptable too and last longer than edible treats
Message from the Cafeteria
Students are welcome to purchase milk for $0.75 during lunch. If a student would like to choose a milk, fruit and veggie (they are not required to take the entrée item), we can offer the complete reimbursable meal to them at no charge. Unfortunately, if a student selects just milk, we will have to charge it as an a la carte item.
