GOOGLE UPDATES/RESTRICTIONS FOR 4K-12 ACCOUNTS
As of September 1, Google changed their access to some of their Google services for all 4K-12 education Google accounts. Students in FPS started to see the effects of these new restrictions this week. Google has implemented these restrictions to protect student privacy and security and to restrict content designated as over 18.
The new restrictions enforces Google's Safe Search feature and limits YouTube access to videos categorized for education and appropriate for under 18. More details from Google can be found here.
Dear Ben Franklin Parents and Caregivers,
This week is our first full week of learning! Teachers and staff are excited to get routines down with our students. Thank you for helping our children to be prepared for each day! The students are working hard all day long! You are probably curious about what goes on all day, and have probably asked your child, “ how was your day?” This can sometimes be difficult for kids to answer, but it is important to continue to ask about school. Consider trying these questions instead:
What was something new you tried today?
Who were you kind to in class? Or who was kind to you?
What surprised you today?
A child’s brain can take up to 12 hours to process ALL that happened in a school day. So sometimes, you’ll learn about things at bedtime or the following morning as kids prepare for the school day. Asking your child’s teacher for a schedule is also helpful, then you’ll know when kids have specials which are also exciting times in a students day.
Our morning arrival routines have been going well! The students are arriving on time and ready to learn! Our end of the day pick up is getting a little smoother, however we are still working out some of our bus schedules which impacts our curbside pick up. Thank you for your patience as we work to load buses and then bring cars into the driveway.
When lining up for Curbside Pick Up, please use this map to get into the pick up line. Just a few reminders:
Do NOT block driveways, fire hydrants or mailboxes.
Do not enter the pick up line from Drexel Avenue. Follow the map and directions.
Parent teacher conferences are scheduled for the evenings of October 14 and 19th. Families will have the option to schedule virtual or in person conferences. Please watch for additional information to schedule your conferences.
Picture day is September 21, please see online information regarding how to order school pictures. Edmentum families will have an opportunity to have school pictures taken as well.
One final reminder, there is a PTO meeting tonight, please see details below in this bulletin!
Sincerely,
Mary Shannon
Ben Franklin Principal

LUNCH MENU UPDATES & SWAPPED ITEMS
Our FPS Food Service Department is currently experiencing a number of changes in food supply offerings due to shortages or certain items. If you have a child that has certain dietary needs or restrictions, please review the online Nutrislice menu offerings for your building more closely so you can be aware of any food items that may have been swapped. Our Food Service staff is updating the menu daily with changes and they expect regular updates and food replacements for the foreseeable future.
BUS REMINDERS
Bus Driver Shortage: Please review this document that we shared on August 31 with all families to make you aware of how a bus driver shortage could impact our bus routes and how we will communicate this with you in the event we can not secure a driver for your child’s route.
Bus Riders Wear Masks: Any individual on a school bus (or any public transportation) is federally required to wear a mask. Please make sure your student has a mask before heading to the bus. Even if students are choosing not to wear a mask while at school, a mask must be worn on the bus at all times. Thank you.
Need a Bus Change or Addition? If you have any additions or changes needed for the busing of your child, please use this Bus Change or Addition Form.
- Bus Drivers Needed: We are continuing to support First Student in their recruiting efforts. First Student provides $21/hour starting pay, a $1500 sign-on bonus, paid CDL training, 20-hours a week guaranteed with extra hours available, a child ride-along program, and no experience necessary.
