Charger Check-In
March 17, 2022
A Note from Ms. Owens
We are so excited for St. Baldrick's Day tomorrow! It feels great to bring this tradition back to St. Catherine, and, from a personal perspective, I'm eager to experience my first St. Baldrick's at St. Catherine. The return of St. Catherine's Fish Frys and this Sunday's rescheduled Catholic Schools Week Mass and Open House are welcome signs of some normalcy for our school and church community.
Remember all students, faculty and staff are invited to wear St. Baldrick's apparel from prior years or green and blue tomorrow. Feel free to throw in some shamrocks and extra green! A $1 donation is requested. All monies will go to St. Baldrick's. If your child is having their head shaved tomorrow, you are welcome to join us in the gym. Please come to the Alexandria Center doors on Kedvale.
Just below in the Check-In, you will find a link to the 5Essentials survey for all school families. This is the third year the Archdiocese is using this tool to gather feedback from parents and guardians. The survey is open today and tomorrow, and my hope is that one parent or guardian from each SCA household will complete the survey. Responses go directly to the UChicago Impact - not to the Archdiocese or St. Catherine. We will ultimately see final results in the aggregate. We will not recieve any individual responses. The survey will be open through Friday, March 18.
As we move into our fourth week of being mask-optional, most other Covid mitigations are in place. My understanding is mitigations will lifted layer by layer on a very measured basis. Last week, we were able to reopen the water fountains in school. That being said, I encourage students to continue bringing water bottles as they greatly improve hydration for the children.

Spring Golf League for 8th Graders
Please read the following letter from our Golf Coordinator, Mark Plaehn.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Mark Plaehn and I’m the Golf Coordinator here at St. Catherine. I’m sending this message to see if your son or daughter would like to play in the SSC Spring Golf League. This is different than the 5th-8th grade league that we have participated in the past few seasons. This league is run by the SSC vs. the 5th-8th grade league, which is run by the school coaches. The attached document explains the league. Note that this league is geared more toward a slightly better player who is interested in playing high school golf. It’s not really the right league for a beginner. A beginner golfer will likely feel out of place and not enjoy him/herself.
In the interest of full disclosure, note that my involvement will be less than the league we run as coaches. In that league, I’m able to have a say in tee times, rules, etc. This league is run by the SSC and the SSC golf commissioner controls the league. Depending on participation, I will probably hold a few practices. I will not be able to make all of the Sunday matches. I already have conflicts for 2 of the 5 weekends.
Please read the attached document and, if this looks like something your 8th grader would like to participate it, let me know ASAP if your son or daughter is interested in playing. I can be reached at mark.plaehn@outlook.com.
School familes can purchase tickets via the school. Send orders in with your child. Tickets will be sent home on Thursdays.
