Message from Mr. Ulbrich
- We all must be diligent in our approach to building security. The events of last week prove that we are at risk of unlawful access to rooms and personal belongings. Here are a few reminders:
· Staff members and coaches are reminded that their assistance is critical in helping the district keep our schools and children safe. Please remember:
· No amount of convenience is worth risking the safety of our students and staff. You are required to keep all exterior doors locked and closed at all times. Do not prop doors open. Failure to follow this basic practice could result in discipline.
· If you see anyone suspicious in or around the building, ask what their business is with the school and direct them to the office. If possible, walk them to the office to check in.
· All employees should have their badges with them and visible at all times.
· Be aware of your surroundings if you are in the building after hours and on weekends.
- I have been working with our school counselors on a "scheduling day". This will help disseminate the large and ever growing amount of information to our students regarding graduation requirements, course options, AP offerings, CCP offerings, Pathways and elective choices. The event will take place in the morning of Friday, February 3. We will run an adjusted schedule on that day.
- The PLSD Innovation Conference was a huge success. I enjoyed watching staff members expand their learning on a wide array of topics. Life long learning is the essence of organizational growth and adaptability. I see PLSD as a district poised to meet the challenges of our ever changing world. #PLSDu
- Please mark your calendar for the 2017 State of the Schools and Celebration of Excellence Expo. The evening’s presentation will include a detailed overview of the permanent improvements issue that has been placed on the May 2 ballot.
The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the third annual Celebration of Excellence Expo and community networking opportunity in PAC lobby. Every school in the district will exhibit innovative and exciting programs from their buildings. At 7:15 p.m., Superintendent Valerie Browning-Thompson, Treasurer Ryan Jenkins, and Business Manager Vince Utterback will present the 2017 State of the Schools, a 60- minute presentation covering subjects ranging from the district’s financial outlook to academic initiatives and plans for the future. The presentation also will include an overview of the 3-mill permanent improvements levy that has been placed on the
May 2 ballot.
A question-and-answer session will follow the address.
The presentation will open and close with musical performances by the Pickerington High School Central Choir and Pickerington High School North Jazz BandFor those unable to attend in person, the district will stream the presentation live online.
- The Second Annual Black History Program will be on Thursday, February 2. We will have two shows for students. The 11th/12th will see the show first followed by the 9th/10th graders. Posters have been placed throughout the building. We will run a normal schedule. Students and staff will be called to the PAC.

Staff Member of the Week
This week’s staff member is married to Emily ! They have two children, Charles (8) and Connor (2). He has been in education for 5 years. If our staff member didn’t work in education, he would work at the UN as an interpreter or as a marine biologist somewhere warm! Aside from necessities, one thing he could not go a day without is looking up random info on Wikipedia. As ruler of his own country, he would have free college for all. His warning label would read, WARNING! – “May respond in something other than English”. Our staff member’s most valuable lesson “The Golden rule”. This staff member would rather vacation in Hawaii, because the cold is not his friend. If money were no object he would travel to different places. The craziest thing he has ever done is lived on his own in a foreign country. He would explore the deepest part of the ocean before exploring a new planet, because re-entering the earth’s atmosphere sounds like a ride he would rather NOT be on.
Ryan Green is our staff member of the week.
Ryan is a French and Spanish teacher.
