CRMS = Success!
Last month we had the pleasure of sharing some incredible academic gains and overall successes with the OTSD School Board, and now we would like to share with all of you. Please check out the video below for the full scoop, but here are some highlights:
- Cedar Ridge had the highest overall academic performance for OTSD middle schools and ranked in the top quartile of all Oregon middle schools.
- Cedar Ridge students grades 6-8 met or exceeded the state and district averages in 12 of the 14 academic areas tested.
- The state awarded Cedar Ridge with a rating of high individual academic growth.
Calling All Runners, Throwers, and Jumpers...
If you have not participated in a sport yet this year, each student will need to complete an athletic packet which includes: Code of Conduct, Physical, and Proof of Health Insurance. Packets may be picked up and returned to the office.
If your child has already participated in a sport this school year, you need only pay the fee. There is a $55 athletic fee for each sport.
If you have any questions, please contact our Athletic Director, Doug Lewis at doug.lewis@ortrail.k12.or.us or (503) 668-8067.
Spring Break (March 25-29)
Counselor Corner: A Note From Mrs. Curry
Cedar Ridge Families,
In an effort to help families keep students safe, there are a few apps an internet safety tips that we would like to share with you. There are many different apps that parents should be aware of. Apps come and go in popularity, just like trends and fads. It’s hard to keep up on what kids are using. A quick Google search can give you up to date information on which apps are popular with teens and which ones should be avoided. Here are just a handful of apps, and the different kinds of apps, that parents should be looking out for on their teens’ phones.
There are several variations of the random video/chat apps. Most of them are set-up to allow users to chat with other users within the same geographic location. Even though these apps are meant for users over 17, there really isn’t anyway for the apps to enforce this. Teens can fake birth dates in order to gain access, just as they do to set up other social media accounts.
The most concerning apps are the anonymous feedback apps. Again, there are several variations. All of these apps allow users to be connected to their friends, but then they can communicate with each other anonymously. There have been many incidents of students receiving anonymous, mean messages using these apps. They know someone in their contacts sent it to them, but they don’t know who.
The number one thing parents can do to keep their kids from using these apps is to enable restrictions on their phones that require them to get parent permission before purchasing and downloading any new apps. Both iPhones and Android phones have this capability. If you have questions about how to set up these restrictions, contact your cell phone service provider.
Please see the app details below.
Sincerely,
Becky Curry

Whisper
The description from the app store says: “Ever wondered what the people around you are really thinking?
Whisper is an online community where millions of people around the world share real thoughts, trade advice, and get the inside scoop.”
This app allows users to post anonymous confessions. Users also see confessions, thoughts, and posts from other users in the same geographic location. The app is meant for individuals over 17, but it has become popular among younger teens. The app allows users to comment on posts and start private chats. Teens can post vulnerable information here that makes them susceptible to grooming from older users
Hide it Pro (HIP)
This app’s icon is made to look like a music app, but it’s really an app meant to hide photos and videos. The description on the app store says “Hide it Pro can securely hide your photos and videos on your iPhone. Never worry about your secrets getting leaked...Enable disguise screen to disguise the app as if it is crashed when anyone tries to access it...Escape Unlock code to make the app look empty (in case someone finds out).”
Tellonym
The description from the app store says:
“Tellonym is the most honest place on the internet. See what your friend think of you, answer anonymous questions and ask others the things you’ve never dared before!
How does it work?
Share your link with friends.
Let them send you anonymous messages only you can see
Answer them on your profile.
Follow your friends to see everything they post.”
This is app is a breeding ground for anonymous cyberbullying.
Calculator Vault/Fake Calculator
This app has the same premise as the Hide it Pro app. There are many, many variations of the fake calculator app. All are meant to hide photos, videos, and other personal information. If your child has more than one calculator app on their phone, one might not actually be a calculator.
HOLLA
Lipsi
This is another anonymous feedback app with a subscription fee that will automatically be charged to your iTunes account. The description on the app store says “Lipsi is more than just an anonymous app. It’s a platform that attracts the boldest who want to step out of their comfort zone.”
End of Year State Assessments
