By Jerry Spinelli
About Jerry Spinelli.
Jerry Spinelli has been a writer since high school. When he went to college, he wrote some of his first short stories and was the editor of the college's literary magazine. He likes to write from memory of his childhood.
About the main characters.
The main characters are Stargirl and Leo. Leo is an average boy in the 11th grade that runs a show for his school called The Hot Seat. Stargirl is a carefree and friendly girl who is starting her first year of high school after being home schooled. She does her best to make everyone happy and isn't one bit shy. Stargirl and Leo become friends and later fall in love.
Conflict.
The conflict of the book is Stargirl being so different from everyone else and Leo trying to change her to fit in.
Compelling Plot Teaser.
When Stargirl starts school at Mica High School, nobody knows what to think of her. She sings happy birthday to complete strangers and cheers for the other school's team as well as her own. The way she dresses herself is strange too. She wears bright colors and lots of poofy and lacy peices. Some people like stargirls friendly and outgoing personality, but not everyone excepts her unusual ways.
Passage from the book.
“She laughed when there was no joke. She danced when there was no music.
She had no friends, yet she was the friendliest person in school.
In her answers in class, she often spoke of sea horses and stars, but she did not know what a football was..."

This passage show how different Stargirl is. It also shows how cheerful and friendly she behaves towards people she barley knows. Even when it looks like there is nothing to be happy about, she is still going to act like there is.
Who might enjoy the book.
The Book was written for young adults, but I thing anyone 12 or older would enjoy it. Maybe even younger. It wasn't hard to read or understand and it wasn't super long either. It was very interesting and fun to read. People of all ages may be able to relate.
