What Is This?
Character Counts!
Having respect for someone means you think good things about who a person is or how he/she acts. You can have respect for others, and you can have respect for yourself. Showing respect to someone means you act in a way that shows you care about their feelings and well-being. This includes things like not calling people mean names and treating people with courtesy. October - Responsibility
We have a few different ways that we talk about responsibility. There's being responsible, taking responsibility, acting responsibly, and having responsibilities. They are all related to doing the things we are supposed to do, and accepting the positive or negative outcome of our actions. (talkingtreebooks.com)
November - Citizenship
To demonstrate good school citizenship students can be respectful of other people and their property, be respectful of school property, follow school rules, display good character, and give back to the school community. (Human Relations Media)
Student Specialized Groups
Now we are looking forward to October when we begin our next round of Student Specialized Groups. These groups are an integral part of our comprehensive school counseling program. Based on student needs, the counselors will facilitate various academic, social, and emotional student groups throughout the school year. Parent/guardian permission is required to participate in these groups.
Some possible group topics for this school year include social skills, positive relationships, emotional regulation, academic skills, changing families, grief/loss, anxiety, etc.
If you believe your child may benefit from a particular group (whether it was listed or not), please contact Megan at megan.burson@cardington.k12.oh.us.

Coffee With The Counselor
Our first meeting will be focused around the topic of self-regulation. Self-regulation is the ability to manage your emotions and behavior in accordance with the demands of the situation. We'll discuss why self-regulating can be so challenging for kids, how we can help kids learn these skills, healthy coping strategies kids can employ in times of need, and what we are doing here at school to teach students to become self-regulating learners.

The NED Show!
The NED Show is a 45 minute character education assembly. NED is a loveable cartoon character whose name is an acronym for Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. Teachers and families love that NED is simple, relatable and kid-focused. For 25 years, The NED Show has used yo-yo tricks in its assembly performances. By mixing old-fashioned yo-yo fun into each show, we deliver a story and message that’s both entertaining and unforgettable in the mind of a child.
*This assembly is for Cardington-Lincoln Elementary students only.
