From MPS director of athletics Chad Davis:
The last week of school has arrived! Congrats to all of the 2021 Miami Wardog graduates! We wish you the best in all of your future endeavors and know you will represent the Wardog Nation well. Thank you to all of the student-athlete seniors who have committed so much of their time and efforts into their respective teams during your time at MHS. Have fun and enjoy your graduation ceremony on Thursday!
With all athletic activities finished for the school year, we now shift our focus to our summer performance (posted below). Summer Performance workouts are for currently enrolled student-athletes entering grades 6th-12th for the fall of 2021. Not all athletes can attend the individual sport days since they are scheduled by high school and junior high grades. Please see the schedule to confirm when and where your athlete needs to be.
Congrats to our new superintendent Mr. Nick Highsmith! Mr. Highsmith and I worked together incredibly well during his first stint with the district and I look forward to welcoming him back as the new leader of MPS. Nick has a great understanding of how we operate and has always been a great supporter of athletics. His love for Miami does not go unnoticed. We are in great hands with him as our superintendent!
As we move into the summer this update will not go out every week as it does during the school year. We will send out the newsletter on an as needed basis throughout the summer months. As always you can follow Wardog Athletics on Facebook and Twitter for updates as well. Thank you for your support of Wardog Athletics!
Congrats to Juan Andres, Jonas Bearden, and Anthony Yardy who all signed their letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at NEO A&M College!
Congrats to Alyssa Pendergraft, Audrey Wall, and Jade White who all made the NEO Cheer team for 2021-2022! Great job ladies!
Spring football practices for the high school team began yesterday and will take place this week and next. They will attend team camp at Claremore High School May 27th-28th.
The 2021 Wardog Wrestling Camp will take place June 1st-3rd at MHS from 10:00am-Noon. Cost is $35.00 if you pre-register before June 1st ($40.00 after that). Contact Wardog Wrestling head coach David Gilstrap (918-541-5860) for more information.
CROSS COUNTRY CAMP
Cross Country camp is offered to any female or male entering grades 4th-12th for the 2021 school year that wants to be involved with our cross country teams. The camp will consist of warm up drills, general conditioning, and training schedules. The camp will begin the week of June 7th and run through July 10th. For more information contact coach Emilee Gardner at email@example.com.
Reminder that all athletes MUST have an updated yearly physical in order to participate in any athletic activity, including our summer workouts and team camps. We have been informed that the mass physicals will not be available to us again this year due to lingering COVID19 issued in the healthcare community. You can schedule an appointment with your healthcare provider to get this done. Sports physicals can be charged as a "wellness visit" by physicians and are typically covered by insurances and no out of pocket is required according to our local hospital. Again, it is required that all athletes have an updated physical in place before they can participate this summer and into the fall.
FAMILY ID (student-athlete registration)
Required student-athlete registration for the 2021-2022 school year will be open and active on MONDAY, MAY 24th, 2021. All athletes must be registered each year before participating in an athletic event.
WARDOG CLUB information
The Wardog Club was formed to help offset the expenses for our athletes who compete and win championships for the Miami Wardogs. Its members are friends, alumni, and advocates of Miami Public Schools who recognize the value of athletics and how they impact all members of the Wardog community. Wardog Club donations help with championship rings, banners, and apparel. These donations will also positively affect facility upgrades, academic resources, and future scholarship opportunities for our senior student-athletes. Each member of the Wardog Club is impactful to all of our student-athletes in all sports, and their contribution has a direct impact on the lives of our student-athletes. For more information on how to join, contact director of athletics Chad Davis at 918-542-8455 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your support of our Wardog Champions!
Keep up with Wardog Athletics!
If you are not doing so already, I encourage you to follow Wardog Athletics on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/WardogAthletics), and on Twitter (@WardogAthletics). This newsletter will continue to go out weekly with updates as well. On occasion, we also may send out updates through our district one call system.
Thank you for your support of Wardog Athletics! I hope everyone has a great week!
