PARENTS WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK

As a part of our district improvement efforts, we are sharing our 2022-2023 Concord Community Schools Family School Climate Survey. The survey will help the district assess the current climate and culture within the buildings. The information is critical to our ability to improve the learning experience. Parents of any students in preschool through high school are asked to complete the survey. Directions for completing the survey are included within the survey. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey that is linked below.

CONCORD IS AWARDED A CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENT HEALTH CARE PLANNING GRANT

Concord Community Schools today announced grant funding from the state of Michigan to begin the process of determining if a school-based health center is a good fit for the school district.

The focus of the Child and Adolescent Health Center Program Planning Grant through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is to study a need for the delivery of health services to children and adolescents in geographic areas where it can be documented that mental and primary health care services that are accessible and acceptable to children and adolescents require enhancement, or do not currently exist.

The grant also requires the establishment of a Community Advisory Committee, made up of school staff, local parents of school-aged children or adolescents, school health representatives, and clinicians from the sponsoring provider.

Concord Community Schools will receive $100,000 in total: $75,000 to conduct local planning to determine the feasibility, community commitment, and documented need for implementing a health center or School Wellness Program, and $25,000 for sites that successfully complete planning grant objectives and are approved for renovation and equipment/supplies to start their program. The district has six months to meet the requirements of each.

Please see the flyer below for information on how to join the Planning Committee.

SENIOR NEED TO KNOWS

SENIOR PICTURE REQUIREMENTS

To seniors and their families,

As the yearbook advisor, I am writing to inform you of the requirements for the senior pictures and baby pictures in the yearbook and the senior slideshow for graduation. The yearbook staff would like one wallet size professional picture sent digitally by email or USB. We would prefer the pose to be that of a traditional head and shoulders shot without props, words or logos. Please inform the photography studio of these requirements. Many studios will provide them for FREE when you purchase your son/daughter’s senior pictures. The pictures must be sent to the school before April 15th .

I will be working with Mr. Couling, who is in charge of graduation and the senior slideshow, so you or your photographer can send the 300 dpi wallet size photo to brian.couling@concordschools.net. If you do not plan to have photos taken before then, photography students will be offering senior photos or as a last resort we can use the “school” photo as the official photo for the yearbook. We will also need a baby picture for the yearbook and senior slideshow. Digital copies can be emailed to Mr. Couling at the address above, or a physical image can be brought in to Mr. Couling to be scanned and uploaded.

If you have any questions about the yearbook, please email me at amy.kelly@concordschools.net.

Thank you,

Amy Kelly

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIPS

In case you missed the meeting with Mrs. Otto, there is a new Concord Educational Foundation scholarship that was presented - the Margaret and Lyle Cunningham Memorial Scholarship was unveiled for the first time ever. This scholarship is offered to two different candidates, one for a graduating Concord High School senior pursuing a career that requires a certificate or associate's degree and the other for a student pursuing a career that requires a bachelor's degree. There were also 2 scholarships passed out for those pursuing a degree in the medical field. Please see Mrs. Otto for a copy of any of these applications.

Reminder to all seniors, the Concord Educational Foundation scholarships are due the Monday before Spring Break. Do not wait to ask for recommendation letters.
Are you a senior interested in a trade-related career? The Jackson Commercial Contractors Association is hosting an event to give you insight into trade-related careers, as well as the opportunity to network with local businesses for potential jobs in the trades right after graduation. You will want to bring a current resume to this event. You must RSVP by January 30th to be able to attend. Details of this event and the link to RSVP have been sent to you by Mrs. Otto in an email on January 11th with the subject line Trade Related Career Opportunity.

Attention Seniors - new Scholarship Opportunity. Please check in your graduating class Google classroom for a new LOCAL scholarship called the Susan B. Anthony Scholarship.

A NEW LINK TO ACCESS POWERSCHOOL

You may have noticed that PowerSchool was down again this week. In an effort to improve cybersecurity, changes have been made to our operating systems including PowerSchool. It is my understanding the PowerSchool app is still not working. I will keep families posted on any news I hear regarding that, BUT I know there is now a new link for students and their families to access grades and view student progress in classes. This link is active and working and can be found below. If you have forgotten your login information and/or password, please email your building administrative assistant and they can get you your PowerSchool information.
