School Community Newsletter 11/17/2019

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are entering into a special time of giving thanks. With fall break just one week away, we hope your families are planning time for rest, relaxation, and gratitude.

At TMS we strive to embrace an ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE and we are grateful for the TMS STUDENTS, PARENTS, and STAFF!

We are incredibly PROUD of our STUDENTS for their dedication to learning and growing in academic and extra-curricular areas. We recently celebrated the talented students in the TMS Variety Show, various Music Ensembles and Bands, as well as the athletes in Cross Country and Basketball. The students were also amazing this past week when they showed gratitude with a roaring standing ovation for the Veterans that joined us at the Veterans Day celebration assembly. It was awesome!

We also appreciate YOU, the PARENTS, for the strong work ethic you've instilled in your children. We thank you for all of the unconditional support you give your child(ren) each and every day and we wish to extend our gratitude for the kindness you show to the TMS staff. We are grateful for our supportive and generous parent community.

Lastly, we are grateful to the TMS STAFF for all the effort they put into supporting our school community, while also remaining committed to their own families. We admire the tremendous pride our staff takes in caring for others and in creating a warm and welcoming school community.

PHONE & ONLINE Absence Reporting

Click the ONLINE ABSENCE REPORTING BUTTON located on the TMS homepage and complete the details on your child's absence.

1) Call the Thomas School phone number at 847-398-4260.

2) The auto-attendant will prompt you with these options:

- Press 1 to report an absence

- Press 2 to contact the school nurse

- Press 0 to remain on the line for the office.

3) Press 1 and report your child's absence.

Important Notes on Attendance:

*If a student is not in attendance during the school day, that student is not permitted to attend any of the school-sponsored after school activities on that day. This includes all extra-curricular events such as athletic events, performances, on that day. Should a concern with this arise, please contact a TMS administrator.

*The Arlington Heights District 25 School Board of Education Policy 7:70 states, “Administration shall manage an absenteeism and truancy program in accordance with the School Code and Board policy.” Throughout the school year, the school staff will try to connect with parents regarding attendance or tardy concerns to see how we can help. In addition, at the end of each quarter, we will send home a letter notifying parents of ALL students who have missed more than 5% of the school year or have been tardy for more than 5% of the school year. The goal of these letters is to raise awareness and offer support for improved attendance.

Absent & Upcoming Absences? Want to request homework?

If your child has been absent or they have a planned absence in the future, please have your child check Schoology. The Schoology page is where most of the work has been uploaded and accessible to your child when they are feeling well and ready to begin making up the work they missed. Students can stay up-to-date by logging into Schoology. We do not expect your child to complete the work while they are absent because we anticipate they are sick and that is the reason they are home. When they are feeling better and ready to begin making up the work it will be available on Schoology. If you are not confident that the work is available on Schoology please email the teacher directly to inquire about specific assignments. Thank you!
