What is going on?

What we are going to be learning this coming week...

Math: Students will learn to use the cent symbol, dollar sign, and the decimal point to name the value of a collection of coins. They will determine the value of a collection of coins up to one dollar.

Reading: We will continue to locate the main idea and details in our fiction texts.

Writing: In Writing Workshop we will be starting our unit on procedural text.

Social Studies: Students will dive into geography of the world, nation, and state. They will explore different landforms and regions of the United States and Texas. Students will learn the difference of urban, suburban and rural areas.

Money, Money, Money

Money is an ongoing skill to be practiced throughout the year. We have found that plastic/school money is not always proportionate to the real thing. We would like to use real coins (pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters) for math this year. Please take this weekend to gather approximately 20 pennies, 10 dimes, 20 nickels and 4 quarters. We will use these coins for the rest of the year for money practice, and will send them home at the end of the school year. Please send the coins to school by next Monday, Feb. 9th. We will have special containers for them here at school. If you have pharmacy grade medicine containers that are not childproof- I will gladly take them off your hands.

Thank you for logging in and working on XtraMath! It is really starting to pay off who works on their extra math with fidelity. Kudos to the students who've practiced at least 3 times last week: Way to go! Akshithreddy, Anjiya, Brooks, Connor, Daphne, Juan Pablo, Karthik, Katie, Liliana, Nishka, and Sonoma! I am proud of you!

I can't wait to see who will be added to the list next week. Keep up the hard work!
