LIFE PRINCIPLE OF THE WEEK--Resiliency

Definition-Resiliency is a noun, Able to recover quickly from misfortune; able to return to original form after being bent, compressed, or stretched out of shape. A human ability to recover quickly from disruptive change, or misfortune without being overwhelmed or acting in dysfunctional or harmful ways.

Round #1--STAAR Testing

Our 4th and 5th grade students finished their first round of STAAR testing this past week. All testing went smooth and we are hoping for great results in a few weeks. Our teachers and administrative staff did an excellent job of providing a calm and encouraging atmosphere for testing. The second round of testing will take place the second week in May. We realize testing is stressful for students so our staff put together a STAAR Pep Rally to release some of the steam, encourage our students and just have fun.

TEACHER OF THE WEEK--Kamesha Jacques- Fifth Grade Teacher

Hello, my name is Kamesha Jacques, I am so grateful and honored to be the teacher of the week! This is my second year at Chavez Elementary and I am very happy to be a part of a great school!

I was born and raised in Dallas, TX. I graduated from The University of Texas at Dallas, and I am currently in my 12th year of teaching. I worked in Dallas ISD for ten years. I taught elementary for 7 years and middle school for 5 years. I have two beautiful daughters who are the light of my life, Finecia (8 years old) and Kylah (2 years old).

In my spare time I love listening to music, watching documentaries, watching my favorite TV shows and spending time with my family. My abundant love for my two daughters and the great values that my parents instilled in me, keeps me grounded and daily motivated.

As a teacher, I always focus on my purpose as an educator and I work very hard so that my students can reach their greatest potential. One of the joys of being a teacher, is when your students let you know how much they appreciate you. Receiving genuine praise from my kiddos gives me the greatest fulfillment, and that’s when I truly know that I made a difference in their lives.
