St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 7 | 2 SEPTEMBER 2021
God our father, we give you thanks and praise for fathers young and old.
We pray for young fathers, newly embracing their vocation; may they find courage and perseverance to balance work, family and faith in joy and sacrifice.
We pray for our own fathers around the world whose children are lost or suffering; may they know that the God of compassion walks with them in their sorrow.
We pray for men who are not fathers but still mentor and guide us with fatherly love and advice.
We remember fathers, grandfathers, and great grandfathers who are no longer with us but who live forever in our memory and nourish us with their love.
Amen
Psalm 103:13: "As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him." Proverbs 22:6: "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." 2 Samuel 7:14-15: "I will be a father to him, and he'll be a son to me."
From the Principal
Dear St Columba’s school community,
There is much to celebrate in the area of learning this week with our first Tournament of Minds; the Science Week Periodic Table challenge; and one of our Year 2 students, Sophia, raising $571 for the MS Readathon - exceeding her target of 40 books.
Tournament of the Minds
Congratulations to our students and Mrs Kate Wilkes on a very successful Tournament of the Minds event over the weekend. They have dedicated a lot of time and energy to this process and the results are a credit to all. This is our first year participating in the program and the feedback from the judges was amazing … just imagine what it will look like in the future! This is yet another example of the wonderful opportunities that our dedicated staff give to our students. Well done everyone!
Father's Day
This Sunday is Father’s Day and we remember and honour dads, grandfathers, uncles, and all the men who tirelessly and selflessly give of themselves. On Father’s Day, we recall the exemplary role-model and patron saint of fathers, Saint Joseph who is the foster father of Jesus and husband of Our Lady. He was a man who loved and protected his family. Saint Joseph’s great dedication and commitment to those he loved, is a wonderful example for us all.
Enjoy the Father's Day Breakfast at 7.30 am tomorrow, put on the P&F and parents. We hope many of our dads will join us afterwards for the Liturgy at 9 am.
God Bless
Rebecca Clarke
Principal

Mary MacKillop Centre Advertisement
Dear Parents and Grandparents,
I am inviting anyone who may have “a little time" to donate their services in assisting at the Mary MacKillop Centre. For those who are not aware we are over the road from the school (The beautiful Heritage Building built in 1908). The sisters of St Joseph took over the School in 1914. Since then we have served at the School for over 70 years and still have strong links with the school and are very proud of the teachers, students and parents.
There are various tasks that need some attention at the Centre and we would really appreciate your help. I can promise that you will never be bored while helping out at the MMC. The Centre is a place of Peace, Calm and uplifting Spirit.
May God be with you and all of your families.
