Principal's Message
Dear Parents,
With the holiday season quickly approaching, the season of giving is here as well. The school participated in Trick or Treat for UNICEF. We raised a total of $1,079.87! All of our donations will help provide food, medicine, soap, school supplies, and sports equipment for many children to improve their health, nutrition, and education. Thank you so much for your donations. The World Cereal Drive was quite successful as well. A special thanks to the student council for organizing the drive and thank you to the community for your donations.
We will be celebrating Computer Science Week December 3rd-7th. Learning computer science helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. Our students will have the opportunity to participate in “The Hour of Code”. The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries. During a scheduled computer/laptop class time, students will participate in a form of coding to create movement for a character on the computer.
On behalf of the Camp Avenue family, we wish you and your family a very happy and healthy holiday season. See you next year when school resumes on Wednesday, January 2, 2019!
Sincerely,
Hillary Bromberg Ed.D.

Amazon Smile
Since many of us are doing a lot of shopping on Amazon for the holidays, we wanted to remind you of the Amazon Smile Incentive. It is easy to support Camp Avenue Elementary PTA with each purchase. A few minutes to set up is all it takes.
If you type in the word 'smile.' before Amazon.com, you will be brought to the same Amazon site, but on the fundraising side. http://smile.amazon.com/
The first time you go to the 'Smile' side, you will be asked to choose the organization that you want to support. Search and choose “Camp Avenue PTA”. Once you have made your selection, Amazon will remember your choice and return you to the Amazon Smile homepage, where you can shop as you normally do.

Important Reminder about Absences
Please be reminded that regular school attendance is not only mandated by law, but is a key ingredient for educational success. Legal reasons for absences include: illness, death in family, court appearances, and observance of religious holidays. If your child is frequently absent due to illness, you will be contacted and medical documentation may be requested. All other absences will be considered unexcused or truant.
Please also be aware that lateness to school can be considered partial truancy and is monitored as closely as absences. Chronic lateness is disruptive to the students in the class, the teacher, and most importantly, to the child. Parents and guardians are asked to contact the school to report each absence. This can be done by calling our Absentee Line at 516-379-3733. If you are requesting classwork and/or homework for your child on the day of the absence, please leave that message with the nurse or on the absence line. Parents are requested to submit a written and signed excuse note for each absence your child has, when they return to school.
