Mooresville Graded School District

Weekly Communications for September 4, 2020

Happy September!

Hello MGSD families! Can you believe we are already three weeks into our school year? As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday for the Labor Day holiday. Did you know that the first Labor Day celebration was September 5, 1882 in New York City? Just a bit of Friday trivia for all of you! :-) While there is no school on Monday, please follow your child's regular class schedule for Tuesday through Friday.

We hope all of you will take a few minutes to read through this SMORE as there are updates we want you to be aware of for next week. We also hope you know that we appreciate you for being the best families in the best community! Have a wonderful and safe extended weekend!

Great News for School Nutrition!

As we announced earlier in the week, we are going to be able to offer school meals for free to all children ages 0 to 18 through December 31, 2020! We are excited to be able to do this for the children in our community; however, we need your help. Please visit https://mgsd.nutrislice.com/menu/ to check out our menus and order your meals today for next week! You can also download the Nutrislice app for easy ordering on your phone!

Do you need help navigating Nutrislice? Here are detailed instructions to complete an online order: Nutrislice Instructions (in Spanish). If you are still having trouble, please contact our School Nutrition department at 704-658-2639.

Unfortunately, Park View and South Elementary Schools will have to be closed another two weeks. To provide a more central curbside pick-up location, we will open Mooresville High School for curbside pick up from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Monday through Friday beginning on Tuesday, September 8. You will access the curbside pick up from Magnolia Street. Please look for the sign where you will turn in to pick up your meals. Mooresville Intermediate School is also available for curbside pick up from 11:00am until 1:00pm daily.

In addition to curbside pick-up locations, we have close to 50 bus stops available for meal delivery. These locations are listed in the Nutrislice site so that you can find a stop near you. We will continue to take bus stop requests if you do not see a location near you.

Please contact the School Nutrition Office at 704-658-2639 with questions or contact Kim McCall at kmccall@mgsd.k12.nc.us. Thank you for participating in our School Lunch program!

We want to make sure that all of our parents are receiving communications from the district, as well as the schools of their choice. Please click the link below for directions on how to verify your contact information for BlackBoard Connect 5 and make edits where necessary. Thank you so much for your attention to this matter!
MGSD 2020 - 2021 School Calendar

Please note that the school calendar has not changed due to starting the year under Plan C.

Remote Learning Days (October 12 - October 16)

Last Spring, our North Carolina General Assembly made it mandatory for school districts to have five remote learning days built into their calendar for the 2020 - 2021 school year. With districts holding school under Plan B or Plan C, all districts are obviously using remote learning days every week. However, the designated remote learning days from October 12 - October 16 will look a bit different. During our October remote learning week, all learning will be asynchronous with a lighter work load. We realize many families had Fall break plans for that week before we were mandated to change our calendar. As the "remote learning" nears, more information will be released from your schools as to what needs to be completed by your child. Thank you!
