Pre-K Specials

NFS Curriculum Update :: January, 2014

PreK will continue to practice listening and responding to stories in a group setting. We will read winter and alphabet books.

Happy New Year! The pre-k students will continue to sing our letter songs. We will be practicing our steady beat through the use of various poems, songs, dances and classroom instruments. We will also be using the parachute!

In pre-k PE, our games and activities will continue to focus on physical fitness and skill development. The class will continue to talk about basketball and this month we will learn about shooting. We will be using size appropriate balls and baskets so students will be able to focus on the proper techniques of shooting a basketball. We will also play large group games like Pilo Polo and Flag Grab. And we will begin to use jump ropes and work on very basic jumping skills in preparation for our 3rd annual Jump Rope for Heart event in February.

Happy New Year! In pre-K in the month of January we will continue to build on and reinforce all of the vocabulary we’ve learned thus far: colors, numbers (1-10), shapes, farm animals, body parts, etc. We will use these vocabulary sets to begin to work on asking and answering the basic questions surrounding them. We will add direction words: up and down, left and right, forward and backward, etc. In addition to describing things using color and the words for large and small.
