Popsicle Stick Model Playground
By: Darlon Smith and Owen Aaron
Problem
The problem is designing a model playground. We must make the playground realistic and safe.
Research
When I was a toddler, my favorite playground toys were spring rider, the swings, and monkey bars. These are still being used today, and will most likely be included in our playground. A must have are swings ad slides. In every playground I've seen, they have included multiple swings and sets of slides, as slightly less often, monkey bars. Although the Spring Rider is severely less common, many sources have said that the spring rider was their favorite equipment in the playground. I as well, had many people lining up to be allowed to use the spring rider in my playground.
Spring Rider
A horse or other animal with a metal spring coiled underneath, that sent you back and forth because of the metal spring.
Swings
Plastic seats with two metal chains connecting to the seats for the bigger children, with a baby variation having a bowl shaped seat with leg holes. Children swing themselves back and forth by moving their legs back and forward respectively.
Monkey bars
A horizontal ladder suspended into the air by four columns. Children carry themselves across by using each rung on the ladder.
Geodesic Dome
A series of poles forming multiple triangles in a dome. This tool is used to climb on.
Slide
Plastic or metal sheets pointed downwards with a ladder at the top. Children climb the ladder and slide down the plastic or metal. Slides are made in many shapes and sizes.
Bridge
These are boards linked together to get to a destination. They can come in many different ways, such as using poles, or having twisty arcs, and a wobbly bridge as seen here.
