What Are We Learning This Week?
SEL (Social Emotional Learning)
I'm Sorry
When two or more people get together, there is potential for conflict. Conflict is a problem between two people. It is important to teach students how to resolve conflicts in a way that reconnects them to others.

This week:
- Students will take their Unit Assessment on Thursday, February 29th.
The Unit 4 Assessment will cover the following skills.
- Measuring with unit tiles
- Determining if students understand the rules of measurement- end to end, no gaps, no overlaps, and same unit/size of measurement.
- Measuring with rulers (inches only)
- Writing statements that compare items and their lengths.
- Ordering items based on their lengths
- Reading clocks to the hour and half hour
- Telling elapsed time using number lines.
- Identifying the 4 main coins and their value- penny, nickel, dime, and quarter
- Comparing sets of coins to determine which set has a greater value
How Can I Help My Student Prepare:
- Create practice problems based on the questions from the study guide.
Phonics
Phonics- Phonograms
This week's pattern will include common phonograms.
A phonogram is a series of letters that represents 1 or more sounds. The vowel sound changes in a phonogram. For example, ng is a phonogram that can be found in the following words: sing, song, sang, sung. It sounds slightly different after each vowel sound. Another example would be nk. think, thank, hunk, mink.
Pattern words: song, bang, crank, thing, blink, gong, bonk, Hank
Heart Words: once, open.
Ways to Help At Home:
- Have students practice writing words that follow this spelling pattern.
- Students can also go on words hunts within their books at home. How many words can they find in their books? Students can write and make a list.
- Practice the heart words that we have learned so far.
- Check out the pacing that is linked below and review previously taught patterns and heart words.
- Read the decodable books that are sent home with your child.
Reading and Listening Comprehension

Our focus this week will be plant needs.
- Plants have parts that help them survive- roots, stem, leaf/leaves, flower, fruit, pollen.
- Plants have basic needs: air, water, sunlight, space to grow (habitat), soil, nutrients
- When plants and animals cannot find enough food, water, or air, they may die.
