CHS Choir Update #8
A Weekly Newsletter for Friends & Family of the CHS Choir
Greetings CHS Choir Family!
We hope you are doing well this weekend and enjoying a little bit of extra time to rest and relax this weekend. While the first few weeks of school have been quite challenging for all of us, it has been full of engagement and growth for all of us.
There are lots of great things going on in the choir room right now! Holiday music is going into folders, students are thriving in the piano lab, and we are all learning more about our voice through more independent learning opportunities. Our community is growing closer together and the music we are making is becoming richer because of it.
This week marks the 3rd week of the second grading period and the first opportunity for students to regain academic eligibility lost at the end of the first six weeks (70 or higher in on-level classes). With only five weeks in this grading period, making sure that things are in order this week can go a long way in helping prevent further loss of credit or eligibility at the end of the six weeks. Grade checks will be run on Friday at 4:15 PM. Any student with grades lower than 75 in each class should receive a copy of their current academic report from the corresponding teacher.
Please be sure to check out the rest of this week's newsletter to learn more about upcoming events and opportunities to become more involved in the life and mission of our program. There is a lot going on right now and we don't want you to miss a beat.
As always, please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or if I can be of assistance to you or your student in any way.
Warmest Regards,
Eric L. Cooley, director
CHS Choral Department

Fall Pledge Drive Update
I want to say thank you to all that participated in our Fall Fundraiser. We are living in very awkward times which makes selling items difficult. In light of administrative encouragement, the Choir Boosters felt that this was our safest way to have a fundraiser at this time.
For some, it was a challenge to ask family and friends to help. For others, it wasn't. For all, it was a new process. While we did not quite make our budget goal, we did raise over $5900 that will go directly to support student learning, engagement, and instruction. We are thrilled to have garnered such enthusiasm and support for our first ever digital fundraiser.
We are grateful to each of you for your patience, generosity, and encouragement!
Many Thanks!
Aaron Summers
Choir Booster President
All-State Audition Update
We are extremely proud of all of our students who participated in the first round of this year's All-State Audition Process. Throughout the rehearsal and practice period, there has been a great deal of reflection on individual work and a substantial amount of growth in the ownership of their craft.
We look forward to learning the results of this first round of virtual auditions by 4:00 PM on Monday, October 19th.
Independent Music Learning Project Information
This week, we continue with our independent music learning project in all of our classes. While some students may have some initial apprehension toward participating in more intimate musical experiences, I can assure each of you that this opportunity has been and can be a positive learning experience centered around growth and the expansion of student performance skills.
Parents, your support and encouragement of your student(s) during this time of independent musical growth is critical to their success. If you hear them struggling, have a conversation with them about what tools they think they need to grow. If you hear them talking down about themselves, ask them to be specific about their concerns and encourage them to ask for support in solving the problem or overcoming the challenge. If you hear them grow or being successful in overcoming a challenge be sure to let them know if a way that you believe will encourage them.
More information about this project, practice resources, and a schedule of assignment due dates can be found below.
