Best Buddies
Sand Creek Elementary Chapter
What is Best Buddies?
Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our programs empower the special abilities of people with IDD by helping them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs and live independently in the future, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society.
What to Expect when Joining Best Buddies
We meet within school as a whole group to discuss the importance of these values and host events throughout the school year to promote that same mission within the community. When paired in a 1:1 buddy pairing, it is highly encouraged to meet up with that friend outside of school to build the friendship naturally.
Although the video below is more geared toward the high school level (as you will not be required a specific number of times to meet up or communicate at the elementary level), it helps to explain a little more about what to expect when joining Best Buddies.
