Student Health and Safety on Campus
From our Student Relations Office:
We are excited to welcome students back on campus in the Hybrid mode. We ask that you help us keep all students and staff safe by ensuring that your student(s) adhere to mandated COVID compliance protocols: Face masks/coverings must be worn at all times while on campus; social distancing requires maintaining at least 6 feet of distance from others including while seated at tables; and, washing hands regularly and thoroughly is still recommended for all staff and students on campus.
In addition, please remind your student(s) that hats and head coverings are not permitted on campus and all students must follow the Washoe County School District dress code. Thank you for your help. We will continue to do everything we can to keep all students and staff safe and protected while on campus.
Students: Prior to coming to school make sure to self-screen yourself.

Senior Portraits
ALL SENIORS-This is an important reminder about Senior Portraits for the 20-21 Yearbook! If student’s portraits are not taken by February 5th, they will not be pictured in the 2020-2021 yearbook. There are hard deadlines to meet in order to publish a yearbook, and there can be no exceptions to this date. Seniors must take their senior portraits at the Lifetouch/Prestige Portraits studio in Reno, this includes our Distance Learners. Appointments are being scheduled for the remaining students for January 19th through 23rd. In order to find your appointment time, you need to go to prestigeportraits.com and type in Sparks, NV. When it asks, select our school, Spanish Springs High School.
Students may wear the provided tux or drape, which are sanitized according to Covid safety guidelines, or students may wear their own clothing for the photos.
The address of the studio is: 80 East Patriot Blvd. Suite D Reno, NV 89511
On Site Hearing and Vision Testing
Students will begin getting their vision and hearing screening beginning next week. The process will be stretched our over the course of the semester due to Covid 19 protocols. If you have any questions, please contact our school nurse Robin Reinders.

Civics Exam
All seniors in Washoe County School District must participate in the Civics Exam as a requirement for graduation. Most seniors have taken this exam during first semester as part of their US government class, but there are some seniors who have not yet taken it for various reasons (not enrolled government class this year,
out of country during the testing window, took class at TMCC, etc.).
The district is offering three make up windows to take the exam during the Spring semester. Seniors who still need to take the exam need to contact their government teacher and/or counselor to make sure they have the opportunity to test before graduation. The dates they can take the exam are:
January 19th-22nd
February 22nd-March 5th
Mar. 29th-April 9th
Students will be able to take the exam Monday through Friday from 7am to 5pm during these time frames. Remember, Seniors must participate in this exam as a requirement for graduation.

Attendance
Attendance is a direct factor of student success. It is our school wide expectation that students attend their classes in person, on Hybrid, or on Distance Learning every day. Teachers will post the attendance and what assignment is due for the day on the “Daily Agenda” channel on their Microsoft Team every morning by 8:00 AM or 9:00 AM on a delayed start day. On the days when students are not on campus, they must respond on the Daily Agenda tab in Teams by the end of the scheduled school day for their attendance to count for that day. A video and/or instructions on how to find The Daily Agenda can be found here:
How to complete attendance in Teams 1-14-2021
* The WCSD District is working to make the attendance process the same at all high schools districtwide, so a revision to our procedure may soon occur. If/when that occurs, we will send a Connect Ed call and place how to instructions in the weekly newsletter and our websites in addition to having a video showing students, parents, and guardians what the new process is and how to do it. We thank you in advance for your understanding.

The College and Career Center
The Nevada Promise Scholarship is a unique scholarship, established by the Nevada Legislature, for Nevada high school graduates to attend community college and receive up to three years of their college tuition paid for! This scholarship opportunity requires ten steps for students to complete. If there is a high school senior who applied to the scholarship and is unaware of what they need to do next, they are encouraged to speak with Ms. Cabrera in the College and Career Center in person, via email Ms. Cabrera, or by phone at 775-425-7733 EXT:38032.
Juniors! Are you interested in a career in the healthcare field? If you are a Spanish-English bilingual junior, the CBESS program is an opportunity to meet healthcare professionals, practice hands on science and research, and connect with a college student mentor. This free program can help give you an edge as you prepare to apply to universities next year and think about what kind of career you want in the future. You do NOT have to be a native Spanish speaker! Applications are due January 24. See Ms. Cabrera in the College and Career Center for more information and applications.
Transportation
School busses will be operating on the same schedule as before while continuing to promote safe practices. All students must wear face coverings at all times, remain seated while on the bus, and follow guidance provided by the bus driver. If you have any questions regarding your child’s bus schedule, winter bus schedules etc. please go to Transportation Website for detailed, up-to-date information.
If you are new to Spanish Springs, or if you forgot what time your bus will pick you up or drop you off, the information can be found here. To use the tool; enter the grade level, then your address, and then click search. Your results will show where the bus stop is on a map as well as the pick-up and drop off times.
