Curriculum Corner

Literacy

We will be learning about folktales beginning with fables. These include stories such as The Tortoise and The Hare, The Lion and The Mouse, and The Ant and The Grasshopper. Our focus through teaching these fables is for learners to be able to recount/retell the fable to determine their central message or moral.

We will continue our study of folktales by reading fairy tales, tall tales, and American legends.

We are working on our Dolch sight words in second grade. Your child has been assessed on these words and we will be learning the second grade list of words this year. Practice at home is always encouraged! If you are looking for some resources to work with your chiild on their sight words, check these out:

Kindness Box for Texas School

We have learned about the Hurricane Harvey victims in the south Texas area and the learners at PRES have come up with a way to make a difference! We have decided to "adopt" Wharton High School in Wharton, Texas. We have set up drop off locations in the building and plan on shipping the boxes to them SOON to help them recuperate some of their losses after this devastating experience.

What should a kindness box contain you may ask?

Markers, pencils, glue sticks, notebooks, folders, STEM kits, art supplies, stickers, erasers, reward items, birthday prizes, post its, tape, really anything that would bless a classroom. Please do not send food. Gift cards are also greatly appreciated.

Lead Learner Wishlists

Throughout the year, our classes will be doing a variety of activities that will require or be enhanced by certain materials. Some families ask how they help from time to time. Below each lead learner has listed items that would be used for classroom activities and projects. Thank you!
