SMS PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Over the last few months we have focused on prioritizing the development of a positive behavior system that reinforces positive behaviors and expectations. At times, middle school students exhibit behaviors that result in consequences due to their decisions that violate our student code of conduct. We want to be transparent about how we approach the reports we receive, the protocols we follow, and resources we have available for parents to help guide their child (ren) toward better decisions and outcomes for learning.
As a result, we want to proactively provide a forum (Parent Advisory Committee) for parents to have an ongoing voice and advocate for student needs in collaboration with our building staff. The goal is to collaboratively work together to develop solutions that result in building a positive school culture and community.
What is a Parent Advisory Committee?
Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) is an organization of parents, educators and administrators who are committed to working together to problem solve issues that may be identified by students and/or our Strongsville Middle School community.
How will members be selected?
Parents/guardians, whose children attend Strongsville Middle School, are eligible to serve as members of the advisory committee. We are looking for 2-3 parent/guardian volunteers to represent each grade level. Anyone who may be interested should submit their name HERE. If selected, you will be contacted prior to the winter break.
When will the advisory committee meet?
The group will meet once a month in the evening, January through May, to discuss protocols, concerns, solutions and support for reporting and advocating for students needs

SOLO Academy Enrollment for the Second Semester
The enrollment window to register for the SOLO Academy for the second semester is now open and will close on December 10, 2021. CLICK HERE to complete the enrollment survey. Who must complete this survey?
- All current SOLO Academy students that want to enroll in the SOLO Academy or In-Person learning for the second semester MUST complete this survey - one per child. When completing the survey, you will either elect to remain in the SOLO Academy or elect to return to in-person learning. As a reminder, the decision that you make is for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year and you will not be able to make a change in placement until August 2022.
- All current In-Person Learners that want to enroll in the SOLO Academy for the second semester MUST complete this survey - one per child. As a reminder, the decision that you make is for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year and you will not be able to make a change in placement until August 2022.
Enrollment in the SOLO Academy is at the discretion of Strongsville City Schools. Students that meet either of the following criteria may not be allowed to enroll in the SOLO Academy for the second semester - (1) poor academic performance / failing grades at interval checkpoints and for the semester, and/or (2) poor attendance / not meeting online or in-person learning attendance requirements. If your child is not permitted to enroll in SOLO Academy for the second semester due to either of these reasons, you will be notified no later than December 10, 2021.
COVID Reporting
During the school week, to report that your child has tested positive for COVID or is quarantined, we ask that you use the student attendance line for your school. Your school nurse or principal will contact you to solicit additional information (if needed) and provide you with specific dates of quarantine or isolation. If you have a question or would like to report your child as COVID positive in the evening, over the weekend, or on an extended break from school, please send an email to your child’s principal or you may use the COVID-19 reporting system on our website. We ask for your patience as we return calls and identify any direct contacts as timely as possible. Our goal is to return calls and/or emails within a 24 hour period.
