Come out to hear some real DC bluegrass and alt-country

Big Chimney is a modern string band that draws from rock, pop, and old-time music. They were the winners of the DC Bluegrass Union's first-ever band competition in 2010, and they won the bluegrass competition at Watermelon Park in 2011. They've also played at the Washington Folk Festival, the Institute of Musical Traditions, and the White House (yes, that White House).

DC alt-country band The Great Unknowns were discovered by Indigo Girl Amy Ray in 2004; she declared their first album “one of the best things I have heard this year” and released it on her independent label, Daemon Records. Their latest album, Homefront, has picked up accolades too—AmericanaUK rated it 9/10 and one song won last year's Mid-Atlantic Song Contest.
