After placing fourth in District 26-6A with an 8-7-1 record, the Tigers have put together a historic run in the state playoffs during their debut Conference 6A season. Dripping Springs began the playoffs by advancing past District 25-6A champion Round Rock Westwood in the opening round, winning 5-4 in a penalty kick shootout. The Tigers also defeated San Antonio Reagan (1-0) and Round Rock Stony Point (5-3) to reach the regional tournament for the third straight season.
In San Antonio, Dripping Springs earned a 2-1 win over a 20-win Laredo Alexander team before snapping Brownsville Rivera’s 19-match unbeaten streak with a 2-1 victory in the regional championship match.
The Tigers will face Allen in the state semifinals on Friday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown. Dripping Springs enters the tournament with a 14-11-2 record, having won its last seven matches. This will be the program’s third trip to the state tournament, also qualifying in 2010.
The winner of Friday’s semifinal will take on either Katy Seven Lakes or Garland Sachse in the championship on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Allen advanced to its first state tournament in 2021, falling in the semifinals. The Eagles are 18-2-5 on the season after finishing second in District 5-6A behind Prosper.
