Good evening Centerview families,
We are one week out from the eve of our students getting prepared to physically make their way to Centerview Elementary. We have lots to accomplish before then and are excited to welcome students back next Thursday, January 21. As a Centerview team, we spent today learning, designing and planning for our students’ transition. Today and next week’s transition days will focus on health and safety, operations and personalized learning and innovation. Thank you, families, for your support of this planning time to make this a smooth transition.
We are working through requests from families to change learning models and the impact on classrooms, learning and teaching for both in-person and online. We hope to wrap this process up and have “new” teachers reach out to families by the end of the week.
As a reminder, there will be no school Monday, January 18-Wednesday, January 20. Monday is the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday and the two days that follow will be used to complete our preparations for our back-to-school transition.
For students returning to the building next week, family drop-off and pick-up will remain the same. We became very efficient with this process while keeping safety at the forefront last fall. However, given that both A and B day kids are coming to school each day, the pick-up line will require patience and possibly timing on each family’s part. If you do not have a number for pick-up, please call the office and we will identify one for your family.
As we continue to live through this pandemic and the ups and downs it brings to our lives, the events at the U.S. Capitol last week and the divisions in our nation also have shaken us. Teachers provided space and time for students to process together. These conversations emphasized that regardless of beliefs, how we treat each other matters. At Centerview, we work hard to create an environment where we treat each other with respect and kindness and each student feels valued and that they belong. We take very seriously our work in helping prepare our children to live in a diverse society – where we can disagree without disrespecting or hurting each other.
We are super excited to have many of our Centerview students back at school, Monday through Friday, to continue our learning. If you have questions or need any clarification prior to our start back, please reach out to your child’s teacher or the Centerview school office.
My best,
Mike
For Extended Flex Learning Families: Transitions
Greetings!
Our K-4 Extended Flexible Learning teachers are working closely with their colleagues at Northpoint, Centerview, and Park Terrace to prepare for the transition of students who will be switching learning models beginning January 21. We appreciate your support and flexibility over the next several days as we work through the staffing and classroom implications of the transition and requests some families have made to shift their student’s learning model choice.
We are continuing to operate our Extended Flexible Learning (distance learning) model for families who chose it for their child. I will continue to provide updates through these school newsletters on the distance learning experience.
As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday, January 18, for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, as well as no school – for all K-4 students - on Tuesday, January 19 and Wednesday, January 20. These days will be used to prepare for the learning model transition for many K-6 students on Thursday, January 21.
Stay healthy…
