Nester's Rockin' Band Class

What's happening in Room 22?

Boosterthon - Rocki' Town Live!

The Boosterthon Fun Run kicked off this week with a fun Pep Rally and I am super excited about this year’s program. Our team name is Nester's Rockin’ Band! The Boosterthon Fun Run program involves all students in a fun, team building, fitness event while helping our school raise much-needed funds. The central focus of this year’s character program is COMMUNITY. This year’s character theme is ROCK’N TOWN LIVE, and the Boosterthon Team will take students on a fun-filled journey teaching them the importance of building community with this fun, music festival theme.

My goal for our class is to raise $50 per lap.

Come watch your students run their 30 - 35 laps Friday, Jan 23rd from 10:15 - 11:15 outside, weather permitting, behind the gym.

Report Cards

Reporting period closed out on Friday. Report cards are being prepared and will be sent out on Tuesday, January 27th.

PBIS Party for End of 2nd 9 Weeks

PJ’s and Popcorn

Congratulations! Many in our class have earned four or less conduct marks for the 2nd 9 weeks! I will be sending a note home on Tuesday for those that are able to participate.

If your name is on the list… you should be proud of yourself just as much as we are of you!! To celebrate this great accomplishment you are invited to wear pj’s to school and bring a blanket, Wednesday, January 21, 2015. You are also invited to a movie and popcorn celebration at the end of the day (bring your water bottle).

Language Arts

While many of your students will tell you they've had enough of the Small Moment writing and are ready to move on (like I'd told them we were), First Grade as a whole has decided to take a step back. We will be spending two more weeks in small moment writing. We feel it is necessary to better prepare students for the writing that is to come if we really push the basics of small moment writing now. So, two more weeks and then off to "How To" writing.

In reading we've been working 8 new sight words each week, that correspond to the ones that were sent home in last week's homework. We've also been working on compound words and soon will be focusing on contractions.

In addition, we've been talking about nonfiction books and why we read nonfiction. This week students will be able to select a topic to focus on during their reading time in the area of nonfiction and really dive into it. "Reading Clubs" if you will. It's sure to be enlightening to see what they choose as their topics.
