Every attempt to make certain that the information and deadlines printed in this newsletter is correct. However, it is your responsibility to check and meet the deadlines.

APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID

Please remember you have to apply for scholarship to receive scholarship dollars. Now is the "scholarship season" so be ready. Have the following three things done.


  1. Resume
  2. Personal statement
  3. FAFSA


If you and your family need help applying for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) you have some options for assistance.


  1. Any State Employee Credit Union office will assist you....Make an appointment
  2. Ms. Gant and Mrs. Porter will assist as well....Make an appointment

FLORENCE KIDDER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $3,000 (runner up, $1,000)


Requirements: Essay required (see link below for essay prompt)

RANDOLPH COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOUNDATION - PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLAR PROGRAM

Award: Varies-Most of tuition and fees for 2 semesters is covered


Requirements: Five high school seniors will be selected as Presidential Scholars and will receive a scholarship to cover most of their tuition and fees for two semesters. The scholarship is renewable for their second year. Seniors who live in Randolph County and attend a Randolph County public, private, or home school are invited to apply.


Deadline: Friday, February 12, 2019 at 3pm.

STATE EMPLOYEE CREDIT UNION - PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $10,000/5 winners for Randolph County School System

Requirements:

SECU requires all applicants to follow the formal application process set by the SECU Foundation.

All graduating seniors meeting the stated criteria will be eligible for consideration. The criteria have been designed to give the Scholarship Selection Committee flexibility in awarding the scholarship. The committee will recognize an individual in the senior graduating class deserving of an opportunity to attend college and will select recipient(s) without regard to race, sex, color, creed, religious preference, age, national origin or disability.


The Scholarship Selection Committee will use the following criteria to award the SECU Foundation People Helping People Scholarship to a recipient who:

1. Is either an SECU member or is eligible for membership through a parent/guardian.

2. Is a senior at a North Carolina public high school who has been accepted to one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina System.

3. Is a US citizen and a resident of North Carolina under NCGS 116-143.1, and is eligible for in-state tuition.

4. Identifies a financial need as determined by submission of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

5. Best exemplifies the “People Helping People” philosophy of State Employees’ Credit Union, and has demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement.

6. Demonstrates scholastic achievement with a maintained 2.5 or higher unweighted grade point average on a 4.0 scale, and may be deserving of financial aid.

7. Will use the scholarship to pay for full-time undergraduate student tuition and fees.

8. Agrees to continue as a full-time student in good standing with the same university for up to eight (8) consecutive fall/spring semesters payable at $1,250 per semester.

9. Is not a Board Director, employee, or immediate family member of an employee of State Employees’ Credit Union or the SECU Foundation.


See Mrs Gant or Mrs Porter to be nominated. The completed application is due to be submitted electronically to Mrs Porter by February 22.

PEARL BERLIN SCHOLARSHIP

Award: Up to $3,000


Requirements: Must be a resident of Randolph, Guilford, Forsyth, Rockingham, or Alamance counties. For graduating seniors entering an accredited institution in Fall 2019. Intended for self-identified LGBTQ individuals or straight allies with a demonstrated commitment to serve, or desire to serve, the LGBTQ community.

AFRICAN AMERICAN NETWORK - CAROLINAS SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Award: Up to 2,000


Requirements: Graduating senior at a North or South Carolina high school. Must attend a 4 year college or university located in North or South carolina. Must plan to major in engineering, computer science, the sciences, accounting, finance or business administration.


Deadline is March 1, 2019

GOLDEN LEAF SCHOLARS PROGRAM (4 year Institution)

Award: $12,000 total ($3,000/yr)


Requirements: Students must plan to attend a college/university on this College List, Recipients are selected based upon multiple factors including grade point average, financial need, length of residence in the county and the ability to communicate a commitment to returning to a rural county that is economically distressed.

GOLDEN LEAF SCHOLARS PROGRAM (2 year Institution)


Requirements: Students attending or planning to attend any of North Carolina’s participating community colleges who reside in a qualifying county and demonstrate financial need are eligible to apply.


Deadline: Each participating college will set the deadline for the scholarship application.


Contact your college's financial aid office as soon as you plan to enroll to determine application deadlines.

FLAKE SHAW SCHOLARSHIP


Award: $4,000/year for 4-year college and $1,000/year for 2-year college


Requirements: Scholarships are awarded to rising freshmen who demonstrate the intention to pursue a career in agriculture or in an ag-related field, financial need, satisfactory grades, an evident understanding of the agricultural and/or agribusiness community, leadership potential, and preference is given to Farm Bureau members

RANDOLPH COUNTY DEMOCRATIC WOMEN'S SCHOLARSHIP

Award: $500

Requirements: 3.0 GPA, 500-word essay in MLA format about a significant event that has occurred in their lives and should also include their future goals, acceptance to an accredited school of higher learning that offers an Associate's or Bachelor’s degree, Student Statement of Estimated Family contribution as identified on the FAFSA letter, Your input on any special circumstances we should consider, List of any awarded scholarships

ENERGYUNITED EMPOWERING THE FUTURE SCHOLARSHIP


Award: $5,000 (2 winners)


Requirements: The scholarship is designed to recognize students who have demonstrated academic success as well as showing a commitment to bettering their community. To be eligible, students must: Live in a residence (house, condo, apartment, townhome) serviced by EnergyUnited or in a neighborhood where EnergyUnited provides services (note: some neighborhoods have multiple energy services providers so this is open to all students in the neighborhood).

RANDOLPH COUNTY FARM BUREAU SCHOLARSHIP

VERY VALUABLE SCHOLARSHIP!

Award: $5,000/year


Requirements: Persons are eligible to apply for selection if they are at least a high school graduate or equivalent, are related (immediate family) to a current Randolph County Farm Bureau Member, have leadership potential, are pursuing either a four-year college degree, or a two-year institute degree, attend an accredited college or university, preferably in North Carolina, sign the application, and if under 18 years of age have a parent/guardian sign, the candidate is pursuing a degree in agriculture, or an agriculturally-related field


Deadline: Must be to the Randolph county Farm Bureau Office by April 1. Students must deliver the application to the office themselves. The recommendation is that this is done by March 26th

J. Howard Coble Scholarship

Another valuable scholarship!


Award: Varies

Requirements: Students who demonstrate the ideals and leadership qualities of Congressman Coble, including high moral character and good citizenship. Priority will be given to children of US military personnel or veterans, members of Scouting programs, and members of ROTC programs (but not limited to). Students must reside in Randolph County!!!!.

Award: $500


Requirements: Applicants must be exceptional English Learners (ELs) admitted and enrolled full-time to an accredited university. However, don't wait to be accepted before you apply.

Award: up to $1,730


Requirements: Graduating senior from a high school in Randolph County

FERREE FOUNDATION SCHOLARS

Award: $2,000 per year. One PGHS student will receive a scholarship others will be offered an interest free loan.


Requirements: 2.0+ GPA, full-time enrollment at an accredited institution


Deadline: Monday, April 1, 2019 (Return to Mrs. Porter) Complete online and print. Then return all paperwork to Mrs Porter by April 1, 2019. Do NOT send to the Foundation.
