Swanson GeoBee
A Geography Bee took place at Swanson Elementary on December 4th, and 4th grader Max R. was the winner! The Swanson School level GeoBee was the first round of the 32nd annual National GeoBee, a geography competition designed to spark student interest and reward students’ curiosity about the world. Max’s next step is to take a qualifying test to possibly qualify to compete in the Nebraska State Bee at UNO on March 27th, 2020. Please congratulate Max and the other students who took part in the Swanson GeoBee.

Swanson Community Club
"The Swanson Community Club is a group of parents that partner with the school to support your children and help enrich their learning experience. Anyone can be involved and they need your help! Here are some ways you can get involved:
Saving your Receipts:
- Use the TAGG (Together a Greater Good) app to "tag" receipts and have money donated to Swanson at no extra cost to you. Participating stores include Hy-Vee, Omaha Steaks, Jimmy John's, Dunkin Donuts, Orange Leaf, Flagship Commons, Pump It Up, Timber, Casual Pint, The Bookworm, and many others. More info here: togetheragreatergood.com
- Send your Hy-Vee receipts to school with your child or drop them in the Swanson box at the 90th & Center Hy-Vee between now and December 31st. Hy-Vee will donate $1 for every $300 spent (this in addition to TAGG!).
Donating your Time:
- Help revamp the club website to make it more useful to parents-- simple website design skills is all they need and would be eternally grateful for!
- Volunteer once or twice in the teacher's work room or library. This is easy and fun work done at your leisure for any amount of time that works for you. Email setroia@gmail.com for more info.
- Volunteer to be the Club Secretary this year. This is a great way for families new to Swanson to meet other parents. Email afjacque@gmail.com if you're interested.
Please join us for any of the upcoming meetings! Anyone can come. They are from 6-7pm at Paradise Bakery in Regency:
Tuesday, February 4
Tuesday, March 3
Tuesday, April 21
We welcome any and all ideas and help to support our Superstars!"
Check out the Lost and Found before it disappears at the end of the year!!
Please make sure to mark all jackets, coats, hats, gloves, lunch pails, backpacks and other student items with their NAME in case they are left around the building or out at recess. This helps us get them back to the right owner.
The school has a Lost and Found that parents are welcome to look through if something is missing. All items will disappear during winter break! There are lots and lots of jackets in the lost and found!
Over the Counter Medicines
Recess
Recess will be held outdoors, except when extended exposure to the elements is inadvisable or when the Principal determines it to be otherwise unsafe. Students will not have outdoor recess when either the air temperature or wind chill factor is 10 degrees fahrenheit or lower.
First Friday Spirit Day!
Each first Friday of the month is Swanson Spirit Day. On this day we all wear our Swanson logo wear or school colors, blue and white, to show our spirit. We begin our day by saying the Swanson Pledge together. It’s a fun day filled with terrific Swanson spirit! Our next First Friday Spirit Day is Friday, January 10!
Hy-Vee Cash 4 Students - Save Your Receipts
Back this year is Hy-Vee Cash 4 Students. Simply save your register receipts when you check out at any Hy-Vee, beginning September 1 continuing through December 31, then send them to school with your child. The collection dropbox is located in the office. You can also turn in your receipts at Hy-Vee after checking out. Look for the collection boxes by the customer service counter.
Swanson receives a percentage of each purchase total - even for gas! Receipts can be from anyone…parents, grandparents, friends or Swanson staff. Swanson receives $1 for every $200 of receipts collected. Every little bit helps!

Annual AHERA Notice
The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act of 1986 (AHERA) requires that each public school district annually notify parents, staff, and employee groups if an asbestos management plan is in place at their school building.
Swanson Elementary School, a newly constructed building opened in 2019, was designed with asbestos-free materials. No management plan or inspections are therefore needed.
The Designated Person responsible for managing the District’s AHERA compliance and the contact person for questions is the Director of Facilities, Russ Olsen (402) 390-8331.
