TOM AZFAL
Thomas Afzal has been involved as a Founder and in the management of eight medical device start-ups developing novel therapies.
He is currently the President, CEO, co-Founder of Spinal Kinetics, a company that developed and is commercializing total artificial disc implants for the spine. He is also currently the Chairman, CEO and Co-Founder of Heart Repair Technologies, a company developing minimal invasive and catheter based implantable therapies to treat heart valve disease. He was the Founder, President and CEO of CardioVention, a company that developed a minimal invasive bypass system used in cardiac surgery.
Previously he was a General Manager and Vice President, Sales and Marketing at CardioThoracic Systems, the pioneer and leader in minimally invasive beating heart surgery, acquired by Guidant Corp. in 1999. He was President of Krauth Medical, one of Europe’s largest medical device companies, and where he also served as a member of the Board of Directors. He was the Founder and President of Life Systems, a European based service provider of combined personnel and products to cardiac surgery and cardiology catheter-lab suites which was later integrated into the Krauth Medical group of companies. Earlier he held various upper management positions in marketing, sales and international management at major multi-national medical device firms – SulzerMedica, Intermedics, Baxter Healthcare and American Hospital Supply Corp.
He has raised over $175 million in capital for start-ups. He is also named on over 30 issued or pending patents. He serves on the Board of Directors of a number of medical device companies and also served on the board of San Diego State University College of Business. He received his BS in Business from San Diego State University.

MATAN GANANI
Matan Ganani, from Israel, is the CEO & Founder of Never Empty. Matan is an IE Business School April 2012 Alumni.
His preMBA professional experience includes 3 years in the Israeli army - serving as a combat team leader. After his army service, Matan attended law school, during his studies, he worked in the private education industry, devising SAT and GMAT test solving strategies, and preparing hundreds of candidates for these exams. Upon graduating law school, Matan began working in Israel´s largest firm – specializing in capital markets law.Matan developed the concept for Never Empty within the Venture Lab, aiming to tackle the problem of under utilized large venues, or simply - low attendance. Never Empty chose Spanish football as its penetration market. To date, Never Empty has raised $1.5 million in funding. Approximately 40,000 consumers use the app, and among the football clubs in Never Empty´s portfolio, is Atletico Madrid – one of the largest and most respected globally.

Alejandro Artacho
Alejandro Artacho is the CEO and Co-founder of Spotahome.
A Spanish national, Alejandro studied Law and Business in Madrid. He has lived in the USA, Mexico, China, Ireland, Portugal and the UK and speaks English, Chinese and Spanish. His obsession has always been to make the world a smaller place by minimizing barriers across borders. To that end, he moved to China for 3 years immediately after university in 2009, where he set up 2 companies: an exporting business and a travel agency. After this experience, he moved on to the tech industry and launched a startup related to worldwide job mobility; this venture got selected in competitions in both Portugal and Spain and incubated in the IE Venture Lab in Madrid. After a lot of learning, he relocated to and worked in Lisbon and London in the real estate industry where he saw a massive opportunity to revolutionize the real estate market by the use of new technology. And thus, Spotahome was launched in 2014 and has now grown the company into a nearly 100 people team providing services in 5 European countries to thousands of tenants from over 130 countries making it the leading booking platform for mid to long term accommodation in large cities such a Madrid, Barcelona, Rome and Milan. Spotahome has already raised 3 rounds of investment from US and UK to VC investors in its year and a half of existence.

Paris de l’Etraz
Paris de l’Etraz is the Managing Director Venture Lab at Ie Business School. Paris has spent over 20 years in investment banking and venture capital, mainly at UBS Bank and ABN AMRO. Since 2005, he has continued to be in the business of either raising funds, setting up new companies and selling or buying companies. In particular, he has been focused on venture capital, digital marketing, sports management, renewable energy and new technology industries.
Paris has developed and registered two patents, one in 1999, which provides an enterprise solution to the “six degrees of separation” idea and another in 2009 that takes client management into virtual online platforms with two-way communication between clients and service providers. His PhD and research work focuses on comfort zones and our relationship with uncertainty.
Markus Edgar Hormeß
Markus Edgar Hormeß is a service innovator and organisational consultant from Germany. For years, the qualified scientist and accomplished musician has worked in telecommunication, engineering, banking and IT fields, helping companies to improve complex services and to make them more customer friendly.
Markus is co-founder of WorkPlayExperience, and co-initiator of the Global Service Jam - the world’s biggest ever service design event (so far).

Adam StJohn Lawrence
Adam Lawrence is a customer experience consultant, comedian and actor with a background in psychology and the global automotive industry. For years he has been using expertise gained in the world of theater, film, stand-up comedy and storytelling to help organisations influence and impress their customers and partners.
Adam is co-founder of WorkPlayExperience, and co-initiator of the Global Service Jam - the world’s biggest ever service design event (so far).
