Exploring Wednesday Workshops; Please Take Survey to Help Us Plan
LOSD is exploring the possibility of offering enrichment classes on Wednesdays to create more connection experiences for our LOSD elementary students only and offered free of charge.
The goal of Wednesday Workshops is for each elementary student to take one, 60-minute enrichment class that will run 4 to 6 weeks, from approximately February 10 to March 17, 2021. Classes will be scheduled from 9:15-10:15 a.m. and 10:30-11:30 a.m. and can accommodate both the AM and PM cohort schedules. Experience will determine if the program extends for a second session in the spring.
Wednesday Workshops will be offered through LOSD Community Schools, partnering with approved third-party instructors in art, science and engineering, as well as possibly world language.
Before the Wednesday Workshop is finalized, we are asking parents and guardians of elementary students to tell us your interest in participating in the program and letting us know what kinds of enrichment opportunities are most appealing to your family.
Please click here to complete an interest form. Thank in advance for your input.

Battle of the Books, OBOB - Sign up by January 8
Parents of 3rd, 4th and 5th graders: It's time for the Oregon Battle of the Books, a fun and engaging reading competition that is run by the Forest Hills PTO!
OBOB is expected to start mid-January and students are encouraged to form a team of 3-5 kids from school. Kids who are not able to find teammates can be matched up with a team, so if you don't have a team, don't worry! Just sign up and we can help!
What is OBOB? OBOB is meant to be a fun and enjoyable way for kids to read more books and/or different books, and the competition appeals to some kids more than others! The ONLY required practice for OBOB is reading books. There are 16 books for 4th/5th grade teams and 8 books for 3rd graders to be divided and read by team members on each team. (Some kids may want to read all of the books and do a lot of practice questions and some kids may just want to read some of the books. Either approach is great!)
OBOB veterans: There will be no regional or state competitions this year, but we still expect it to be lots of fun!
For more information or to sign up, visit the FH PTO website or click on this sign up link to register your team. Please sign up by January 8th.
Contact Lorri Wilson and Micha McNerney at ForestHillsOBOB@gmail.com with any questions or concerns.
Scripps Spelling Bee, Grades 4-5
Scripps National Spelling Bee has developed an online testing platform that will allow Forest Hills to host an online School Spelling Bee for interested fourth and fifth-grade students in January.
Our school champion will then move on to represent Forest Hills in the Regional Spelling Bee which also will also include online tests in lieu of in-person spelling bee events. More information on how to register for the online competition will be coming soon. In the meantime, here is a list of 450 words from Scripps to practice if you are interested in competing or just for fun! Once you have carefully studied all Scripps 450 Words, you can go on to study The Scripps Word List of Champions.
