Enrichment October News
Art - Jennifer Ashmore, Art Teacher
In ART class we will continue to learn about and do artwork in the style of a different artist each month. The children learned about an artist named Keith Haring in September. I think the children really liked his style of art. In October we will be learning about a Louisiana artist named George Rodrigue. George Rodrigue began by painting outdoor scenes at family gatherings, using an oak tree as his main subject in hundreds of paintings. Later he started abstract painting of Louisiana legends and the history of its people. He is best known for his Blue Dog series of paintings. He modeled the Blue Dog after his own pet named Tiffany.

Music - Cristen Dimas, Music Teacher
Let’s make some music! In MUSIC class, Challenger musicians practice and develop rhythmic skills, melodic skills and listening skills in age-appropriate, FUN ways. We make and experience music together using singing voices, instruments, movement, children’s books, and games. And we READ music, using visual representation and music notation. Every time students come to class, we: Sing, Move, Play, Listen (like musicians do), and Create!
In October, we continue to celebrate Fall! Your student may come home singing songs or speaking rhymes about pumpkins. Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade lessons now include the glockenspiels, and 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders are continuing working on "Bar Basics" techniques and playing a steady beat vs. a rhythm on the resonator bars, xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels.
PE - Bridget Hodge, PE Teacher
What a wonderful start to the year! If your student hasn't excitedly reported what he is learning in P.E. class, please ask about how much fun we are having while we explore movement skills. Below are a few photos from our September units.
Our October lessons will build upon what we previously learned and introduce skills such as appropriate tagging, throwing, tossing, catching, and rolling. We hope your family will join our school in celebrating Walk to School Day on October 12th . This event is a great way to kick off a new healthy habit together! For more information about the P.E. Program, please visit Ms. Hodge's canvas page and feel free to contact her directly (bhodge@conroeisd.net).
