Happy New Year - Second Semester 2022

I hope that all our Beck families had a wonderful holiday and enjoyed our break from school! It was a time to renew, relax and recharge. I was able to spend a lot of time with my children, who are now living away from home (Grand Rapids, St. Louis, Nashville, and Chicago). It was so nice to have them all back under one roof! I loved cooking and baking with my kids, I was able to read more than one book, and enjoyed walking our two Irish Terrier puppies. I hope you all enjoyed some equally precious time with your loved ones, too!

As we begin this second semester of our school year, we are all looking forward to continuing to work on helping our students accelerate their learning, while balancing their social-emotional needs, too. Students will be taking the mid-year NWEA tests in reading and math (Jan. 18-30) to monitor their academic achievement. Winter Parent Teacher conferences will be coming up soon - watch for more information on that event! A great time to connect with your child's teacher to ensure everything is in place to help your child be successful at school.

Results from the second marking period should have already been sent. Parents with established secure parent portals will have been electronically sent their child's 2nd marking report card directly to the email account on file.

I hope everyone enjoys a healthy and happy new year! Welcome 2022!

Kaiser Studios - Back for another round of Photographs! January 11

Our favorite school photographers, Kaiser Studio, will be back at Beck next week, on Tuesday, Jan. 11, to catch some student candids, take group photos, and snap any students not previously photographed, or re-take those who did not like their original photos.

If you do not like your original photographs, previously taken, please send the package back to school with your child, and they will be re-done.

If your child has not had their photo taken yet, it is not too late to order them. Simply go to their website, www.kaiserstudio.com. Where it says, "Order Code", type in BECK21. You will then be prompted to put in your child's name and information.

Our yearbook is being assembled and more information about it and how to purchase one will be available later this winter. We typically offer those for sale in advance and they are delivered in early June, 2022.

Parking Lot Update - No Left Turns

You may have noticed that the district has responded to the concern for public safety in our parking lot. When the additional lane was added for left turns, during the remodel, it was to increase the flow outbound. However, with the increased traffic on Hayes at exactly 3:30 and the traffic attempting to turn left INTO the lot, it has become very dangerous for anyone to attempt to turn left out of our parking lot. The new sign, indicating "Right Turns Only" was added before the holiday break.

The time school releases unfortunately, coincides with the end of shift of an industrial facility just south of Beck. Traffic heading north on Hayes is very heavy at exactly 3:30 p.m.

Also, we have noticed may folks attempting to enter our parking lot by driving into the exiting lanes of traffic. This is also a very dangerous practice! There will be a head-on collision if someone is exiting the lot as a car tries to travel in the wrong lane into the lot. Please do not do this. We can move cars quickly and efficiently if everyone follows the same rules.

I have been out on the street helping to get cars moving out of the lot as safely and as quickly as possibile. Please allow time to safely enter our lot, pick up your child, and make your way to the exit. Enjoy the time in the car together hearing about their day! I promise everyone will get to where they need to be if we could all just be patient and follow the established procedures!

Dress for the Michigan Winter

With the Michigan winter weather being so unpredictable, all students should come to school prepared each day for outdoor play. Unless the weather is in the low teens (<12 degrees), students will be outside for recess - usually twice per day. Fresh air and excersize are important - but so is staying safe in cold and snow! We want to protect those precious fingers and toes!

Please make sure your child comes to school with boots, a warm coat, hat, and mittens or gloves every day. Boots are important because very often our playpad is not cleared of snow. Students who aren't prepared for winter weather will stay indoors and enjoy a good book

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found center is over-flowing with items that I'm sure parents would love to have back. This week I had every student walk by the area, which was organized and grouped into items (hats, mittens, sweatshirts, backpacks, lunchboxes, ect . . .). A few items found their owners, but not many! If you are missing things from your child(ren)'s wardrobes, please stop in this coming week. Useful items not claimed by next week will be washed and donated to the Salvation Army.
