JUNE 4 SENIOR DRIVE OJRHS/EV CLASS OF 2020
We encourage our EV staff and families to celebrate the Owen J. Roberts High School Class of 2020 on June 4 during the Senior Drive at EV. All spectators will line the Senior Drive route to ensure safe physical distancing. Spectators are encouraged to make posters, decorate their cars, wear EV gear, bring tissues, and make lots of noise for our EV graduates.
I'd suggest spectators line the Senior Drive (blue route) starting at 1:30, so we can start the Senior Drive promptly at 2:00. See below for the Senior Drive route map.
JUNE 5 GRADE 6 PROMOTION PARADE
Safely line the blue parade route with your signs, pom-poms's, and noise makers as we celebrate the promotion of our sixth grade students, Class of 2026! See below for the Senior Drive route map.

OPERATION OJR SPIRIT - DUE BY JUNE 1
You're Invited To Join The Fun! With the school year slowly coming to a close, it’s time to celebrate ALL of our students, faculty, and staff!
Let’s show our Owen J. Roberts spirit district-wide in a mass door/lawn/house decorating event. Use your creativity and show your Wildcat pride! It doesn’t have to be anything extensive, but could simply be decorating your door, even doing chalk-art on the driveway or chalk paint on windows. Plant some red and white flowers or hang some red and white balloons! Do you have any Owen J. Roberts spirit wear? Wear that and pose for a shot!? Red and white should be the theme any way you’d like to do it.
When you’ve completed your Operation OJR Spirit creation, snap a picture and click here to upload or if that doesn't work, email Amy Christman at achristman@ojrsd.net by no later than June 1st. These pictures will be compiled together for a last-day-of school video! If posting your phone on social media, use #operationOJRspirit.
YEARBOOKS
We've sold nearly 300 yearbooks! There's still time to order yours by clicking HERE. The price is now $19.00.
Due to COVID-19, Balfour closed its plant operations; therefore, yearbooks will be shipped on June 30, and the online store will be available through June 30. PTA and Yearbook Committee volunteers will distribute yearbooks in early July directly to students' homes.
Have a yearbook-related question? Send an email directly to evesyearbook1@gmail.com.
TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK - WISH LIST
Dear EVES Families,
With your generosity, we are able to purchase a full-sized Whirlpool Energy Star certified refrigerator for the upstairs Science Lab (room 208) which will serve many purposes, including storing staff meals, snacks for class parties, and science experiments. On the second floor, we have 25+ staff on any given day so having this refrigerator will be most helpful to many. As the 2020-21 school year approaches, staff will receive a refrigerator wish list survey, so both refrigerators can be stocked with favorites.
We are happy to officially announce, another item that was crossed off the faculty wish list! The purchase of two 65-inch LED televisions with streaming capabilities will allow us to stream announcements to staff and students, share student-created news broadcasts, have another large group space with projection capabilities, and stream other fun and educational content. The two televisions will be placed in the East Vincent Elementary School cafeteria.
Thank you for your Teacher Appreciation Week participation - it was such fun showering our staff with surprises, love and appreciation. As we get closer to the 2020-21 school year, be on the lookout for "EVES PEP SQUAD" information as we give a GO CATS welcome on the first staff day.
GO CATS!
~ Teacher Appreciation Week Committee
ART WORK
All current sixth grade students received their art pieces from Ms. Smith during the Student Materials Exchange events this week. The few students who we know are moving also received their art work.
Students in grades K-5 will receive their art work at a later date, which is to-be-determined. For now, the priority was to carefully pack and send art work for any students who will not be EV students for the 2020-2021 school year.
Emma Mazzoni, Grade 3
Zachary Fagan, Grade 1
Iris Miller, Kindergarten
Chloe Murdock, Grade 2
EXCHANGE DAY
In exchange for working beyond their contractual day to pack up classrooms and gather student belongings, classroom teachers will have one day this week when they give your child a free pass on lesson completion, but your child must complete attendance for that particular day. Your child's teacher will notify you of their specific exchange day. Enjoy the day and thank you to our teachers for their hard work!
REPORT CARDS
Report cards go "live" on Skyward on Friday, June 5 at 12:00 p.m. If your child receives a progress report from a teacher who provides specialized services, then the teacher will send home the progress report via e-mail on Friday, June 5.

As shared on April 20 in the Weekly WOW...
From the report card...
Standards-based grading aligns grading with the PA Core Standards. The report card accurately communicates achievement of learning targets to students, parents, and educators. Our report card provides specific information about the level of proficiency on the learning targets that are taught each trimester.
By the end of the year, students are expected to be proficient for each standard. Students scoring below proficiency will receive instructional supports to achieve mastery for specific content and skills.
Given our current situation, teachers will do their best to indicate a proficiency level (scores of 1, 2, 3, or 4) for each standard; however, it should be noted that teachers will use a "*" on your child's report card when there is not enough evidence to determine a level of proficiency. The elementary principals and curriculum supervisors have instructed teachers to use the "*" as a grade level and more liberally than usual given the current situation.
Special area teachers will not report a level of proficiency for any standard. They will use the "*" for all standards for trimester 3.
VOLUNTEER CLEARANCES - IT MAY BE TIME TO RENEW
Pennsylvania implemented mandatory clearances for all school volunteers five years ago, and your clearances are good for a period up to five years. The school district will not be notifying you, so check your clearance paperwork to see if yours are about to expire. Your expired clearances may preclude you from volunteering for any school volunteer opportunity, and we do not want that to happen.
Owen J. Roberts Board of School Directors encourages the use of parent and community volunteers to support the educational programs of the School District.
Acceptable Volunteer Activities: The Board encourages the use of parent and community volunteers to support the educational programs of the School District, subject to certain requirements and procedures as set forth in Policy 916. Acceptable activities for volunteers in the classroom fall into the general category of providing practice in skills and strategies previously taught by classroom teachers. Please see Regulation #916A for acceptable activities for volunteers to carry out with students.
In March 2016, the Owen J. Roberts School Board revised our Volunteer Policy – Board Policy #916. The Volunteer Policy applies to parents and all other members of the community who volunteer in our schools, or serve as overnight chaperones.
We now offer the capability to upload/scan your completed clearances.
Step 1. Volunteer applicants must complete the clearance requirements below prior to completing the Volunteer Application:
PA State Police Criminal History Check– as required by Act 34 – Dated no more than one year prior to the application date. Application found online through PATCH at https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
PA Department of Human Services Child Abuse History Check– as required by Act 151 – Dated no more than one year prior to the application date. Application found at https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home
Federal Criminal History Report – Dated no more than one year prior to the application date. This requires fingerprinting to be done. Please see registration and directions at IdentoGo -https://uenroll.identogo.com Use Service Code 1KG6XN (Please Note– this is not required for a volunteer who completes a written statement that he or she has been a Pennsylvania resident during the entirety of the previous 10 year period. The written statement can be found by clicking here.)
PDE – 6004 - Act24 Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form – Dated as of application date. The PDE -6004 form can be found by clicking here.
Continuing Reporting Obligations – part of the application indicating that if the applicant is arrested or convicted of any of the enumerated offenses while serving as an interim non-faculty sponsor, they shall provide the building principal with written notice no later than 72 hours after an arrest or conviction.
Additionally, all school volunteers and school visitors are subject to Raptor (or such other building level security program as may exist) screening. All clearances must be dated within one year of the application. No individual will be approved to serve as a volunteer if any of the required clearances evidence an offense which would preclude such an individual from being employed in the Pennsylvania public schools.
All of the above outlined clearances are completed at the expense of the applicant and are good for five years.
