The Husky Update September 21, 2020
Information for our Highline Community Elementary School
From Principal Sanchez-Hart
Hello Highline Families,
Here's what is happening at Highline:
OCTOBER 1 COUNT - ATTENDANCE MATTERS
Our October 1 Count window is important for our school. It is how we receive our state funding, which is based on the number of students in attendance. Please be sure to have your students at school on time and ready to participate. Should your student be sick, it is very important that you call our attendance line and let the school know because this excuses the absence. If we do not hear from you, the absence is marked as unexcused.
HIGHLINE COMMUNITY PASS MEETING - THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24TH 6:00-7:00 PM
Please join us for a time to meet with other families in our virtual setting from the comfort of your own home. We have Spanish translations available. Our topic is "Our Hopes and Our Reality." We want to hear from our families about the hopes and realities for living and thriving during this pandemic. Please use the link below.
TITLE I FAMILY MEETING - THURSDAY, OCTOBER 1ST 11:00 AM AND 6:00 PM
Mark your calendar for our annual Title I Family Meeting. We will hold two times for families to join the virtual meeting. We will share our Highline mission, vision, beliefs, and commitments we make to our students and families. We will also share the resources we have to share with our families as well as answer questions that you may have. We hope you can make time for one of these two opportunities.
PTCO BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED!
PTCO serves our Highline Community through fundraising, providing staff meals for conference nights, and to plan school-wide events for all to participate in. However, we need an active board, which includes volunteers who are trained and will serve as a President, Secretary, or Treasure. These are vital roles to hold and without them, we cannot initiate our PTCO. If you are interested, please call me for more information at 720-747-2306 AND plan to attend Thursday, October 8th from 6:00-7:00 pm. This a virtual meeting, so please use this link to attend this meeting.
THE HUSKY HOWL
Starting a school year in the middle of a pandemic is no easy feat. Our staff have learned new protocols, rearranged classrooms, and still persevered to make an amazing start to our school year. Part of the credit goes to the amazing team of support teachers we have at Highline who include out literacy teachers and our English language specialists. This group of five ladies help support and promote our literacy efforts, and we would be lost without them! Our Husky Howl for staff goes out to Mrs. Stacy Holguin, Mrs. Sarah Weyls, Mrs. Wendy Deagman, Mrs. Kerri O'Donnell, and Mrs. Rachel O'Dea.
For our students, we start with Sabirin in Mrs. Lee's kindergarten classroom. She lights up the room and works not only master the rigors of kinder but also she cares for all of her classmates. Sabirin is a student and a friend.
In Mrs. Howard's 4th Grade class, Scarlet leads the class as a student and friend. She inspires others to be their best and she leads by example! Congratulation to this week's Husky Howls!
On behalf of the Highline teachers and staff, we hope you all stay warm and healthy this weekend!
We are Highline - Proud, Strong and United!
Sincerely,
Diana
From our Assistant Principal - Ms. Gaby Ruiz
Fire Drill
Today we had a visit from the Aurora Fire Department to conduct our September Fire Drill. Everything went well and they were very pleased with our evacuation timing. When speaking to your child about drills, please remind them of the importance of always taking it serious and following teacher directions.
Mask/Sanitation
All of our students and staff will use a face mask during all school hours, with the exception of recess (mask break), while in PE class, and when eating. We will have a small quantity of masks available in the school for emergencies. Also, we will have ample amounts of soap and hand sanitizer for students and staff to use throughout the day. Finally, the students need a clean mask each day. Please remember to wash cloth masks regularly to keep us healthy and strong.Safety is always our priority!
Some reminders to ensure our students and community are safe during arrival and dismissal:
- Please ensure the crosswalk is not blocked as our students who walk need to be able to use it.
- At the parking lot exit please remember you are not able to turn left during arrival and dismissal times.
Husky Howl of the Week! These friends are leading the pack and going the extra mile!
