Simile: is a figure of language that compares one thing to another using like or as.
Example: "Its like a black moist violet." The Most Dangerous Game.
Metaphor: is a figure of speech that compares one subject to another.
Example: from The Most Dangerous Game I'm still a beast at bay...
Personification: is a figure of speech that gives an inanimate object the characteristics of a human
Example: from the Most Dangerous Game " Well done Burmese tiger trap claimed one of my best dogs"
Hyperbole: is a figure of language device that exaggerates the truth, but isn't meant to be taken literally
Example form the Scarlet Ibis "Doodle was just about the craziest brother ever."
Alliteration: is a figurative language device that occurs when the same sound or letter appears when at the front of each word in a sentence.
Example: from The Hunger Games Prim's face is as fresh as a raindrop
