A Note from Mrs. Loppnow:
Hello Parents!
Happy Friday! It was so nice to chat with so many of you last night at conferences. I truly enjoy our time together and have so much fun getting to know you a little better. I look forward to seeing the rest of you next week!
I am so proud of the students, each and every day, but this week they have really shown their "grit"! With our huge writing project we have "to-do" lists all over the classroom. The students are learning the power of a "checklist" and are feeling determined to show their best work to you on March 20th. Some students chose to take some work home to complete over the weekend, so be watching for that. Next week we will begin our final drafts and gathering ideas for our project boards. If you have any old "scrapbooking" supplies you would like to donate to the cause, we would surely use them here!
Enjoy your weekend!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PLEDGES!!!
Together, our class raised $406.00 in pledges for our reading! THAT IS INCREDIBLE!!! The students worked together to figure out what animals we would like to "buy" for families in need around the world. We decided on: Rabbits ($60), 2 Chickens ($40), Hive of Bees ($30), Duck ($20), and a Water Buffalo ($250). The students worked in small groups to discuss the impact of each animal and worked out the "math" of what we could purchase. There were some amazing conversations happening about the benefits of one over another! Thank you for raising such compassionate children! You should all be so very proud!
Hummm.....

A Peek into this week and next!
Writer's Workshop: Our "To-Do" list today was...Writing, Writing, Writing! Extra time was spent today completing our paragraphs (including introduction and conclusion) and revising and editing to be ready to start final drafts on Monday. YOU CAN DO IT!
Content: See above...Writing, Writing, Writing!
Reader's Workshop: This week our focus was on identifying Main Idea and supporting details. We used a variety of text including varying lengths, degrees of difficulty, and a wide range of topics. We will continue to work on this skill in the coming weeks as we start to read "paired" texts (different texts on the same topic) to practice everything we have learned this year. The greatest growth in reading comes by...READING! The students continue to show progress and it has been even more evident during our Olympic Reading Challenge. Although we don't always like to admit it, I think sometimes a little "friendly competition" is just what some kids need to pique their interest and fuel their determination to succeed!
MATH SPOTLIGHT STRATEGY
This week's SPOTLIGHT STRATEGY is...Multiplication Strategy: THREE'S FACTS!!!
