State Fair Entry
State Fair Static Exhibit Information
Congratulations to all 4-H members who had their exhibits selected for the Nebraska State Fair! Good luck to those who are participating in live 4-H events on the August 26-28 weekend.
All projects going to the Nebraska State Fair must be at the Extension Office by 3:30 p.m. on Friday, August 19th. Exceptions are:
- Flowers, Foods, and Horticulture - Tuesday, August 23 by 3:30 p.m. (Please call the Extension Office with class, cultivar or variety by August 17.
Supporting information is required for ALL Home Environment exhibits at the Nebraska State Fair. Information must include:
- Explaining all the steps taken to create your entry and
- Stating the element or principle of design used.
Supporting information is also required for ALL food preservation items. A form is available from the Extension Office for your use.
Remember to include all supporting information that was required for your exhibit at the county fair. Vegetables must have the cultivar on the tag.
We will have your completed entry tag here at the office when you drop off your items. State Fair 4-H exhibits will be ready to be picked up at the Extension Office on Wednesday, September 7th.
Cass & Otoe County 4-H Livestock Judging Contest
The annual Cass & Otoe County Livestock Judging Contest will be held during the Cass County Fair on Saturday, August 13th on the Cass County Fairgrounds. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the contest beginning at 9:00 a.m.
4-H’ers must turn in cards on all classes to qualify. Reasons and question classes will be part of the contest. Exact numbers will be announce day of contest.
All ages of 4-H'ers are welcome to participate:
Senior Division Livestock Judging (14 years & older)
Intermediate Division Livestock Judging (11-13 years)
Junior Division Livestock Judging (8-10 years)
Clover Kid Division Livestock Judging (5-8 years)
2022 MAKE IT WITH WOOL CONTEST
Enter the Make It With Wool Contest! The object of the contest is to promote the beauty and versatility of wool fabrics and yarns; to encourage personal creations in sewing, knitting, crocheting, spinning, and weaving of wool fabrics and yarns; and to recognize creative skills.
The 2022 State Make It With Wool Contest will be November 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lexington, NE beginning at 9:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to the public Fashion Show at 1:00 p.m.
The divisions determined by age as of January 1, 2022 (national rule), are as follows: Preteen – age 12 and under, Junior – age 13 to 16, Senior – age 17 to 24, Adult – age 25 and over, and Made For Others.

The entry form, state brochure and national wool contest guidelines are posted on Dawson County Extension’s website: https://extension.unl.edu/statewide/dawson/. Entry forms, fees, wool samples and wool testing fees are due October 15, 2022 to Andrea Nisley. The fabrics/yarns used for the wool contest must be 100% wool or wool blend (minimum 60% wool or specialty wool fiber) for each fashion fabric or yarn used. Specialty wool fibers include alpaca, angora, camel, cashmere, llama, mohair, and vicuna.

Earlier this year, the 2021 state contest winners Karla Herrarte of Lexington and Aretta Brennemann of Curtis competed at the 2022 National Contest in San Diego, California.
The National Make It With Wool Contest also has a Fashion/Apparel Design Competition for college students who are currently enrolled in a college-level fashion or apparel design program. Entry deadline is November 1st for the Fashion/Apparel Design Competition. Information, criteria, how to enter and deadline information is given on the National Make It With Wool website.

- The sponsor of the trophy, banner, or award you received at a pre-fair contest, county fair, or state fair.
- Your club leaders for all the help and support they’ve given you during the year.
- The Otoe County Agriculture Society for supporting the 4-H program.
- The business or person who purchased your livestock at the 4-H Livestock Sale.
