BICYCLE SAFETY AND CANYON BIKE RIDE with Principal Mosgrove
The D.A.D.S. Group is hosting this fun event at the main parking lot of the school starting at 9AM on Saturday, October 26. Dads will be on hand to pump up tires, make adjustments, and check to see that bikes are in good running condition. All riders including parents should have helmets. There will be a bike handling course for the kids to enjoy until about 10:20 am. At 10:30 am Principal Mosgrove will lead us into the canyon for the ride to the waterfall. Ride at your own pace, return when you want. Some water and snacks will be available. Plan on the event lasting until about noon. If you would like to help out email Victor at pvesdads1@gmail.com. Hope to see you out there!
Annual Fall Scholastic Book Fair
Our annual Fall Scholastic Book Fair is here! The Book Fair will be open October 21-25 before school, during recess & lunch, and after school. The students will also be visiting with their classroom. Feel free to visit the Book Fair anytime with or without your student. The teachers will also have a "wish list" so you can add to their classroom library.
***SHOP ONLINE***
If you are unable to physically attend the book fair, visit www.scholastic.com/fair and search for Park Village Elementary. You can purchase books and have them shipped to your home. Get free shipping on orders over $25. By shopping online this week only, our school earns 25% in rewards!
We also need VOLUNTEERS! Volunteering at the Book Fair is the perfect way to stay connected to your child at school and help students find the books they can't wait to read. Sign up now and get ready for a fun and rewarding volunteer experience.
BMX ASSEMBLY
One of the many programs the Park Village Foundation funds is assemblies. Last Friday, our students were treated to a BMX Show assembly! They learned the "5 Secrets To Success:"
- Stay drug-free. This is the foundation of success. Treat your body with respect. Athletes take care of their bodies!
- Live your dreams. Set big goals - it's your decision. You can be anything you want!
- Be motivated. Success requires hard work.
- Respect others. Treat others with kindness.
- Stay in school!
At the end, the bikers, Jared and Victor, jumped over 5 people (including Mr. Mosgrove, Mr. Lasho, and Mrs. Doud) and did back flips! Ask your student if they enjoyed the show.
Penguin Page Turners Book Club ~ Recommendation of the Week
The book recommended by Anushree H. of Mr. Girod's class is The Thief of Always by Clive Barker.
Harvey Swick is a 10-year-old boy who finds himself bored with everything. In response to a frustrated plea for change, a man named Rictus flies up to Harvey's window and invites him to a kid's paradise, the Holiday House. I thought this mysterious book was perfect to get ready for Halloween. If you like spooky stories, I think you should read it. Recommended for ages 9 - 12.
LEARNING GARDEN UPDATE
Last week, we featured our 5th graders planting a variety of seeds into two of the planter boxes. This week, our seeds are sprouting! The goal is to grow a salad - that they will get to eat!
The Learning Garden is made possible by generous community donations, community volunteers, the D.A.D.S. Group, and funding from the PV Foundation.
Harvest Festival
- FREE ADMISSION

LOST AND FOUND
Helpful hint: labeling your student's items makes it easier for students to identify which item(s) is theirs, and also allows us to assist in reuniting lost items with their owners.

Volunteer Opportunities for 2019 - 2020
Park Village prides itself on our programs and events. However, they are all run by parent volunteers, and we need your help! We have opportunities of all types and sizes. Even one hour once a month can make a difference!
- Library - Help reshelve books. This task is constant and can happen any time of day. Perhaps you can help after morning drop-off or while waiting to pick up your child in the afternoon? You can make a difference in as little as 15-20 minutes. I just need folks to stop by regularly. Many hands make light work! No experience is required. If you’re interested, please email me at sfleming@powayusd.com, or stop by the library to chat.
- Recycling - Help sort and crush recycling. Second Wednesday of every month, 8-9 am, ESS Parking Lot. Even 15-30 minutes before school is a big help!. Contact Victor at pvesdads1@gmail.com.
- Science Night Volunteers - You will oversee a station while our little ones sharpen their science skills with their parents. Please sign up for a night when your own child is not attending - PV Science Night Volunteers. Contact Shannon Nellies at s.nellies72@gmail.com.
- Marquee Editor in Chief(s) - Update the marquee in the front of the school with our PVE news, and help keep our families informed! Contact Gigi in the office.
**REMINDERS**
Parking Lot Reminder
Please remember that the parking lot is for teachers and staff only, with the exception of the clearly marked visitor spots. We have many support staff members whose hours begin after class is in session. When they have to spend their time searching for parking off campus, it negatively impacts our student services. Thank you for your help!
