Notes From the Office
CGSF Popcorn Days: We are gearing up for another successful fundraising year with Popcorn Fri-yays. Popcorn is $2.00, and we aim to have popcorn delivered to classrooms before 10:30 am on Friday. Last year popcorn days provided approximately $7 000 to our Fundraising Association. As our student population continues to grow, we know the support is needed more now than ever. We are working with our Hot Lunch ordering platform to hopefully have popcorn orders streamlined through that, for families who wish to do so. If you have any questions: please email Barb (cgsfundraising@gmail.com).
Hot Lunches: Ordering will be open from the 1st to the 20th of each month to order for the following month. Please note that there is no hot lunch ordering for ECDP or Kindergarten students. To open your 2023/24 hot lunch account (the system does not retain information from the previous year), follow the detailed instructions provided in the attached graphic (Digital Take Home Folder). When you log in, you may notice a new button to volunteer for hot lunch. Please consider volunteering to help sort and organize hot lunches from 11:30 am-12:30 pm. If you have any questions you can contact our hot lunch team at: cgshotlunch@outlook.com.
CG Gear: Our online store is back up and running for the year. Check out: https://christinagordon.entripyshops.com/ to order school clothing. There is a wide variety of styles, logos, and colours to choose from!
Respiratory Illness Outbreak: Please find attached (Digital Take Home Folder) a letter from Alberta Health Services declaring that Christina Gordon Public School is currently in Respiratory Illness Outbreak Status. We have been advised that there is no need for extraordinary measures, but to ensure we continue to follow good hygiene practices such as washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, and most importantly, staying home when sick. Please encourage your students to follow these procedures carefully. On the advice of Alberta Health Services, our Christmas Concerts will proceed, but it is extremely important that students or others planning to attend the concert who are ill with respiratory symptoms should NOT ATTEND the concerts.
Christmas Concerts: Attached is a poster with the dates for the CG Christmas Concerts for 2023. Grs. 1-2 will be rehearsing the morning of their concert (December 12th) and Grs. 3-6 will be doing the same (December 13th). Classes will be invited to watch the rehearsals. Classroom teachers will supervise their classes the evening of the concerts. Doors will open at 5:30 pm so that the concerts can begin promptly at 6:00 pm. Our class will be wearing "Elf Hats" for their performance. Mrs. Power has enough hats for everyone, but students are invited to wear their own if they would like.
Best Spot in the Lot: This is your chance to get the best spot in the lot! The parking lot that is. Using the comment section underneath each photo, families are able to bid for VIP parking spots for this year's Christmas Concerts. The winning bid for our current concert is only at $25. All proceeds will be donated to the SPCA on behalf of Christina Gordon Public School. Place your winning bid here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/379699077737932.
Best Seat in the House: Be front-row-centre at our Christmas Concerts by purchasing raffle tickets at each concert. Tickets are $2 per ticket or $3 for 5 tickets. Tickets will be sold at the door and drawn prior to the start of the the concerts. All proceeds will benefit the Centre of Hope and Waypoints.
Classroom Celebration: Our classroom will be having a small celebration for the last day of school before the Winter Break on Thursday, December 21st. Students are welcome to wear pyjamas, bring stuffed animals, blankets, etc. Together we will be reading and watching, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas!", giving students the opportunity to compare and contrast two different media versions of the same story. We will also be having a Grinch Taste Test. Students and families who wish to contribute a green item can sign up on the provided Google Doc (Digital Take Home Folder) or send me a message/email about which green fruit or vegetable you will be providing. We appreciate items being pre cut or sliced when possible.
Christmas Spirit Week: As in the past, students and staff are invited to participate in our upcoming Christmas Spirit Week from December 18th-21st. Each day will have a theme that students can participate in if they choose to do so. This year the themes are:
- Monday, December 18th - Red/Green Day
- Tuesday, December 19th - Winter Hat Day
- Wednesday, December 20th - Winter Sweater Day
- Thursday, December 21st - Pyjama Day
Christina Gordon school and classrooms will also be collecting Food Bank Donations from December 12-19th. Donations can be made to the classroom teacher. As with any Spirit Day, Week, or other initiative, students encouraged to but not obligated to participate in any of the above. Students will still be included in any event or activities that take place on these days regardless of dress, donations collected, etc.
Fundraising Association Casino: Our CG Fundraising Association is currently looking for volunteers for their upcoming casino from January 13-14th. This is the single BIGGEST contributer to funds which go directly to the students and the school.
