LAKEVIEW HIGH SCHOOL
AUGUST 15, 2022
Principal's Message
Dear Spartan Parents and Guardians,
The start to school is starting to feel very real here at LHS! It has been great having students back in the building this week getting started with their fall activities. Fall sports have started, the band returned from band camp, dance camp was held for our show choir, and our Back to School event is right around the corner. We are looking forward to seeing your student(s) and having a great school year!
Sincerely,
Cody Japinga
BACK TO SCHOOL EVENT - AUGUST 18TH
Lakeview High School Back to School Event Thursday, August 18, from 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. We ask that students and parents do their best to attend the event during their scheduled time. Spreading out times helps to prevent some of the early backups we saw in previous years. Photographers will only be here until 6:00 p.m., in the Black Box.
LAST NAME & TIME SLOT
A - F ~ 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
G - L ~ 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.
M - R ~ 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.
R - Z ~ 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.
We have a few required items we ask you to complete before attending:
1. Parents must complete their registration on Skyward for each student. Registration information was posted to Skyward Family Access in the spring. It is located in the left hand column and titled “LHS Registration 2022-23.”
2. Parents must complete information for Free and Reduced Lunch even if they do not intend to enroll in the program. Parents can do so here.
Once these items are complete, the following activities will be available to students and parents:
· Student schedules for 2022-23 school year
· Locker assignments
· School pictures in the Black Box
· Chromebooks for new students and incoming 9th graders
· Building open for tours
· Consent forms for Grace Health Student Service Center
2021-2022 YEARBOOK PICK UP
Yearbooks from last year will be available for pickup during the back to school event in Room A102. If you did not order a yearbook and would still like one they will have extra to purchase for $85.00.
PRINCIPALS PARENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
I will host a Principal’s Advisory Committee with interested parents again this school year. Last year, parents that attended found it very informative and a great line of communication with high school administration.
At each meeting, I present a very short amount of information about an aspect of the high school. After, we have open dialogue about any concerns parents might have.
If you are interested in joining this group, please enter your name and email address into this Google Form.
HANDBOOK REVIEW
For those that are new to the high school or would like a refresher on some of our basic student handbook guidelines, here is a short discussion of student expectations at LHS:
· Face Coverings: While students will be permitted to wear a medical mask if that is their preference, a mask should not cover more than what a medical mask would. This is important for staff to be able to identify students in our building.
· Cell Phones and Other Electronic Devices: Students are not permitted to have cell phones or other electronic devices (wireless headphones, gaming devices, etc.) during class time. This includes both in the classroom and the hallway. Students will be required to turn their phones in to high school staff if they are found violating this policy. Other consequences are outlined in the student handbook.
· Backpacks: Backpacks are not permitted in classrooms. All bags large enough to hold a notebook are included in this rule. Students must store these bags in their locker. Backpacks left in hallways or other areas are subject to search and consequences.
· Deliveries during the School Day: While we are happy to assist with forgotten items, deliveries by food delivery services or other items that could distract from the learning environment, (balloons, flowers, etc.) are not permitted.
· Open Lunch: Open lunch will be restricted to 11th and 12th grade students that meet handbook qualifications. Applications will be available at our Back to School Event and in the main office. Applications require a parent signature and are due no later than September 1st. There will not be another application period during the 22/23 school year.
· Dress Code: Our full dress code is available in the Student Code of Conduct. As a reminder, students may not wear clothing with words or images that do not match the vision and mission of the school. Examples of such items are Playboy brand clothing, shirts that promote alcohol or drug use, or profanity or sexually explicit words or phrases.
